Belichick Doesn't Get the Fuss on a Formation 'That happens all the time'

Ian Logue

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said after his team's loss to the Patriots that Bill Belichick's bunch used formations that "nobody's ever seen". According to Belichick, maybe he should start paying better attention.

Good take..

We know by now anything Belichick does deserves more scrutiny, just last week that fossil Don Shula mentioned "Belicheat".. ESPN never misses the opportunity to bring up spy gate.

If another coach had done this it would be termed "brilliant" or not mentioned at all, just because Harbaugh made a lot of noise does not mean that it is newsworthy..

Envious of great coaching is never more obvious as it is in this issue..

After the drubbing Harbaugh took over this by, to name a few, Peter King, Jimmy Johnson and Boomer Esiason, I think Harbaugh has come off looking pretty bad.

The simple fact is that he had not coached up his players to be ready for the situation going into the game and, when he realized that his guys weren't prepared, he didn't call a time out to straighten it out, instead he did the Diva thing and ran on the field waving his arms. He then compounded the situation by embarrassing himself with his comments after the game.

As for Ditka, after watching him on TV for the past few years, I think it's pretty obvious that his thinking processes are impaired, probably as a result of multiple instances of head trauma over the decades. He's a sick guy; I'm going to leave him alone to spew his nonsense.

Seriously, WTF? Nick Saban has used this formation at Alabama, and at LSU before that. Many coaches, heck, I'd venture to say that majority of coaches, know the rules and how the line is to be formed. It isn't rocket science and the fact that this sort of formation is known in High School, College & the Pros should pull the rug out from under all these "controversy" arguments.

Harbaugh got embarrassed on the big stage. Rather than man up about it, he's gone full tinfoil hat. Never go full tinfoil hat.

I have seen a lot of teams use it but its the HC's job to call a time out if you don't have the right players on the field to stop the play don't cry cheating after you lose

Never go full tinfoil hat.
What if you have an abundance of tinfoil, or several hundred tinfoil hats arlready created? This is obviously an attempt to manipulate the price of tinfoil.

The thing that annoys me about the complaints is that they assert that they should have been given more time to get their crap together and sort things out.

First, there is a 40 second clock.
Second, we substituted players and they had the opportunity to also substitute players.
Third, our new player reported himself and the referee stopped play and turned on his microphone to announce his ineligibity.
Fourth, they let another 8-10 seconds run before allowing a snap.

Do the refs have to stand over the ball until we incur a delay of game penalty?

This wasn't a quick snap situation. Baltimore was just confused and refused to call time out.

Too bad the media didn't call his BS at the press conference. He claims he had to take the penalty to let the refs know what was going on because they were confused, and they supposedly agreed with him hat he should be allowed to substitute.

Bulls***

No way the refs all of a sudden decided he can make a defensive substitution when the offense doesn't make a substitution. And his "I had to take the penalty" excuse sounds like a five year old claiming "I meant to lose."

In fact, I'm pretty sure BB used it to attempt to draw the Ravens into burning a TO, knowing that the game would likely come down to clock management at the end. He probably never envisioned being able to use the play on 3 seperate occasions and about 35-40 yards.

I couldn't agree with this more. Harbaugh really put his foot in his mouth here when emotions were still running high. I'm sure if he could he would take his comments back.

The more time thing kills me too, there was an announcement of EXACTLY which player was ineligible. The Ravens should know immediately who not to cover.

Maybe BB will take advantage of the Colts with this in a different way. They'll be concentrating on who not to cover and we'll get a nice lateral screen gain out of it.

Heh....... Have Vereen come in and tell the refs he is reporting as "eligible". The Colts will think the Patriots are doing that whole 4-man line thing, but not paying attention to what Vereen says. :)

Sort of that whole "Shoot the duck" Shoot the rabbit" routine from Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck.

As Jimmy Johnson put it on the first pregame show on Sunday, "I've been using that play since Picayune High School."

This is ALL about Harbaugh not having coached his team up enough to be aware of the "situation" (as BB would put it) and then compounding that original error by not calling a time out when he realized his players weren't ready. Instead he runs out on the field flapping his arms like a Diva.

Belichick: 3-D Vulcan Chess
Harbaugh: Tic-tac-toe? Connect the dots? Checkers seems a little advanced for him.
