Curran: Patriots complicate game plan vs. Jets

Scary when the musical chairs OL scheme that proved disastrous early on returns with same results

This is a bit concerning. The idea of rotating linemen within a game has never made a ton of sense given the need for cohesion and communication, and the results have not been encouraging.

Except for the third quarter against the Fins, the offense has been sputtering for a month (21, 23, 17 points vs. Packers, Chargers, Jets). Whatever they did yesterday did not work. All of the moves on the OL, starting and then benching Kline, remind us of the early games. We can speculate as to the reasons, but the offense and the OL in particular has regressed such that they are a different offense now than they were mid season. The running game has deteriorated and with it the pass protection. Interceptions have become a weekly occurrence. Hopefully it gets all straightened out for the post season, but the trend does not inspire confidence.

Well you can't blame Tom on half of his ints. Most have been tipped in the air or to a defender or him being hit/ just about hut rushing his throws.

Offense hasn't been producing but it's mostly because of the OL. Once the OL blocks the offense will improve in points scored.

I'm so sick of this "prove he's smarter than everybody else" ******** that media folks constantly pin on BB. BB does what he thinks in best for the football team. It's that frickin simple.
No one disagrees that he does what he thinks is best for the football team. But what he thinks can occasionally be wrong also sometimes. BB is not perfect either. And nothing wrong in pointing it out. Iam the biggest BB homer out there but he can make some mistakes.
Last week before the half against miami, they ran the ball 3 times with vereen and gave the ball back to MIA who scored a TD. Iam sure BB did what he thought was the best for the football team and admitted later that it was bad coaching.
Happens.

I'm don't have a problem with criticizing BB. It is the "trying to prove he's smarter than everyone else" baloney that I find annoying.

Didnt like the game plan yesterday either and the Oline play was a hot mess sometimes we do get to cute. The Jets are tough to run on but we needed more attempts IMO.

Well, BB and JMcD do that too some extent , maybe subconsciously that it comes out that way. They are so invested in finding the matchup that they can sometimes lose sight of the simple stuff. Even the play off loss to the jets few years ago, they refused to run the ball and take control of the game. They are still better than others in being right about the weakness to exploit and I dont think any team does that better than the pats but they do sometimes get carried away. Rotating Olineman vs a very good jets D on the road without your main WR and Conolly , dont know the logic of it .

I cite the poor passing and running as downstream consequences of the problems with blocking as the root source of decline in offensive production.

None of the things that you just said they do is "trying to prove they are smarter than everyone else". They do what they think gives them the best chance to win. Sometimes they are wrong. It really is that simple.

and when your veteran QB cites lack of communication as being the cause of the sacks one hopes that the coaching staff does a dispassionate job of self-scouting post game

Then good thing we'll have all home games remaining (assuming we win next week--at home)! And I was going to bring up the Colts game--but I assume you are making more of a general statement.

Yeah, but our most important game of all will be in Arizona in February. :D

Yup you're right! And thank you for sparing me. :)
