Denver's TJ Ward a man of his word, goes low on 87 again

Man I hate Ward. Also shows that he can't really tackle if he can't wrap somebody up

From my experience playing the game, I would simply say that the only thing going through your mind when making a tackle is how to effectively get the guy on the ground and not miss the tackle. Missing a tackle is very easy to do. To suggest that players line up a spot to hit to injure a player makes no sense to me. The game is just too fast, and the guy you are trying to tackle is trying not to get tackled.

The inverse of this logic (not saying yours is faulty) is to stipulate that headhunting does not happen in the NFL.

It's my opinion that headhunting has always been a big part of the NFL culture. I just don't think it's out in the open or talked about, but its much more prevalent in the NFL (in my opinion) than anyone wants to admit.

These guys want to win.

On that note, maybe all Welker/the Bronco's wanted to do was play with some punch-mouth physicality, but Welker ran a rub route designed from the start to target whomever was defending Julius Thomas. I am just highly, highly skeptical that Welker never saw the target of his upcoming pick. It might not have been headhunting, but at best, that was no accident.

`Bountygate` anyone?

We just saw as recently as this week Suggs try to smash Blount's legs and Ward dive helmet first at Gronk's knees. Head hunting is standard. Pollard put Gronk in a figure-four ankle submission in the AFC Championship game.

This is why, aside from injuries, we never won anything as a finesse passing team.

In the NFL you destroy or you get destroyed.

McCourty folding Welker in half will play psychological dividends if we see Denver again.

I'm glad you mentioned the Pollard hit on Gronk. It always looked to me that he gave it a little extra 180 degree twist as they were rolling on the ground.

One time a hit to the knees may be accidental, twice is intentional. The obvious response is an 'accidental"clip to Ward's knees.

He did, and it cost us ring #4.

Pollard is certifiable scum bag for it and I don't think anyone will be crying if he got folded in half.

Also, if you remember, there was another play when BenJarvus Green Ellis lost his helmet in the middle of the play and Ray Lewis tried to go helmet to unprotected head on him.

Same game.

Yeah, I remember that one too. For a second I thought we were about to have a killing nationally televised. Can you imagine the fallout? It would have made every previous gate look like child's play.

Yup, my heart stopped for a second when I saw Lewis line him up and go for the kill shot. Thankfully Jarvus got under him.

Every scumbag in the league knows that Gronk is unstoppable and they have no chance unless he's in the locker room. It's a total losers mentality. I don't know what kind of sociopath you have to be to try to injure someone via folding their leg in half.

It was great to see Gronk aware of this and be ready for it.

God willing, he never gets hurt again.

I just hope he never takes that knee brace off. I'd feel better if he wore one on both legs in every game. And coated his bones in adamantium. That'd help too.

Yeah, that was terrifying; even more so because it was clear as day that Lewis saw Benny's helmet came off and still lowered his head for the kill shot. It's a savage game and all, but I never expected to see anyone do something so purposely dangerous.

I hate how TJ Ward tackles and I want a rule in place to prevent it. The question is does the league.

Agreed, but unfortunately the odds of him taking out Peyton's knees are low now that they're on the same team, so don't see that rule change coming anytime soon. In fact, now that they're on the same team, that would run counter to the overall goal of rule changes/points of emphasis now.

Great job by the NFL; superstar misses half the season based on this type of cheap shot and the NFL chooses not to make these hits a point of emphasis. Especially in light of the fact the player was explicit following the injury with both his intention to continue "tackling" in this way, and the way he interpreted the rules in his sick mind as requiring he take out players knees! What better time to address this?! Instead the NFL can't get over how badly the Broncos and Manning got beat down in the SB. Heck, who says you're limited in the number of points of emphasis you can have? Why in the hell couldn't this type of spearing been added to that list.

Allegedly, Ray Lewis has runs on the board when it comes to violence.

He tackles like a complete coward and I hope a Raider WR jumps right over him when he does it and scores a touchdown.

He tackles logically. I wouldn't take Gronk around the waist at 200lbs. That's suicide. We have seen guys wrap Gronk around the legs and be dragged for five yards!!

I watched a lot of condensed games from this week and people go low all the time. Ward was as much a danger to himself...that's a neck breaker in every sense of the word the way he went in...and he does that quite a lot FYI. He's not a great form tackler..but there are plenty like it. Watch every game condensed and count the number of times someone chops a guys legs out from underneath him because of a size mismatch. Most games you need two hands.

You'd also need a couple to count the number of cut blocks that occur. They are equally as dangerous to a D Lineman as a low hit on a bigger player but it is legal and a widely taught technique.

It was dangerous to both him and Gronk but I don't think he is going out to injure. He's going out to get the man down and in as quick and efficient way as possible. For someone of his size going against a 270lb Gronk, logically you would aim fo the legs.

Coaches absolutely coach their players to take the legs out from under a player. It isn't with intent to injure. It's called playing smart. If you were a 200lb safety and had Gronk coming at you, you'd be stupid to go gny higher than the thigh and, with the speed this game is played at, you just get as low as you can as quickly as you can.

Plenty of Pats players go low. People are just to naive to see it.

I hope that, during the Donkeys next game, Ward is hurt so badly that his career is over immediately.

That's not even funny.

Wishing injury on someone is pathetic and classless. I don't know you, but that provides me with a pretty good summary of what kind of person you are.

I am glad Gronk has the athleticism and now the experience to protect himself better. BTW NE was the more physical team and not only beat but beat up the Broncos and did it without controversy.

Colts are next!

Welker is a tough guy, so he'll probably play again. But that hit looked like it could have done vertebrae damage. Hits like that and what you say in your last paragraph are the reason why I have wanted a destroyer back there for some time. McCourty is definitely not a destroyer, but those hits do have a psychological effect.

Gronk seems more adept at avoiding players now too (experience?). Pats were the more physical team and definitely beat up the Broncos. The Raiders should do the same thing. The Refs cannot call a penalty on EVERY play and what does Oakland have to lose really? Maul their receivers!
