Resurrection of Tavon Wilson

Is it safe to assume that Tavon Wilson is not a bust???? Or Tavon Wilson appears not to be a bust???

Tavon has over the past couple of years garnered a lot of attention on this board....

It's premature because nobody had really tested him yet. He looked solid Thursday, but so did Chung. Let's see how they look against the Eagles offense, when Harmon gets a fair share of snaps. Even then, as much as I'm ready to be the VP of your Tavon Wilson can club, I will likely still defer judgment.

If this attitude was widespread there'd be no point to debating anything at all on a fan forum.

There's a middle ground between 'you need a notarized letter from Bill Belichick accompanying every comment you make' and 'spew whatever drivel you want regardless of whether or not it is backed up by anything concrete'

I think it is safe to say that without knowing the why of a the coaching staff played a player at the start of the first preseason game that conjecture is premature.

For instance - Belichick has shown in the past that sometimes they like to take players out of a preseason game and then put them back in (typically QBs) so they get a feel for what it would be like to come off the bench. Maybe they're doing something like that with other positions. Maybe he's leaning towards Chung but believes that Chung will get more motivation by having Wilson taking snaps first.

Honestly I don't think even Belichick knows who is going to get the most snaps between Harmon, Chung and Tavon, let alone us fan types.

There's plenty to debate that doesn't involve trying to read signs in chicken bones.

I hate when people try to shut down opinions like this.

You can make any opinion invalid:

Judge by first preseason game?

"It's the first preseason game."

Second?

It's the second...

Third?

It's just the preseason it doesn't matter

53 man roster cuts?

Doesn't mean he'll actually start

First game?

Relax it's just the first game.

You can go forever with this, including the all powerful "This past player seemed good by all accounts and still got cut. We are not the coaches."

If this attitude was widespread there'd be no point to debating anything at all on a fan forum.

Actually, the third preseason game is usually the best sign of where the depth chart is going to be heading into the regular season. We've seen time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time and time again why you simply cannot draw conclusions from the first preseason game.

I said "appears" there is nothing premature and there is nothing that implies fact about the word appears. I offered an opinion based on playing time, and performance.

Try saying, "it appears to me."

You guys are being pretty antagonistic for seemingly no reason...who cares if one guy on the internet thinks Tavon Wilson is having a better camp than Duron Harmon?

It's become apparent that Malcolm Butler has won the starting CB job over Darrelle Revis.

I get the sense Malcolm Butler is a strong mentor-type and will help Revis find his old form after apparently sitting on the sideline in BB's doghouse. Revis may actually see some playing time this year.:)

Because the draft pick was controversial when it was made.

Considering I was writing it I did not think I had to emphasize that it was me. I figured posters would be smart enough to understand that. Apparently that was a poor assumption.

I also asked what everyone else was thinking as the final question. That question was of course ignored by you because instead you would prefer to stir up the pot because that is what the cool kids do on the internet.

This was not a debate the question asked in my OP was what does everyone think of Wilson and the safety competition. That question you ignored because you wanted to instead try and make me look stupid by posting a gif of a dog pissing. A total mouse move. Stop trying to justify it and just own it.

Well, the passive voice is often used in business and politics to absolve responsibility for a statement/decision. The company became bankrupt, the bomb was detonated etc.

When one says "it appears" it gives the impression that an authority has made a decision. You are not an authority. If it's what you think, let us know so we can disagree.

It "appears" to me, conveys the idea that the people who decide have decided Wilson is ahead, not that you think so.

It appears to me that they have. You are free to disagree with my opinion but do it. This is a waste of time.

I''m certainly not clear on who is winning the "other safety" job. But Wilson's apparent "rise from the grave" goes more to point out how ridiculous our knee jerk assessments are, how much DEVELOPMENT can be made by a player over a period of years, and how little we know about possible circumstances that might have caused what seems to us as bad play.

I'm sure no one will be surprised to see a completely new safety rotation rolled out against Phily, if only to piss off Felger and keep us guessing. ;)

Bad play? Anybody with even a minute amount of knowledge about how the safety position is played, particularly in a Cover-2, knows that Wilson made multiple mental errors. I'm still wondering what the hell he thought he was supposed to be doing on those two plays in Seattle. Belichick simply will not tolerate mental errors, and Wilson made his share of them which is why he spent so much time out of the starting line-up.

This was not a debate the question asked in my OP was what does everyone think of Wilson and the safety competition.

You realize the statement you made about Wilson being ahead of the other two is in writing on the previous page, right?

The statement I made was based on an observation, at practice and in the preseason opener Wilson was on the field more with the first team defense than Harmon or Chung. If you want to believe that does not portray the appearance that he is currently ahead of Harmon and Chung on depth chart that is your choice. I made a statement based on how it appeared to me.

The appropriate thing to do would be to write something like “I disagree with your statement that Wilson is ahead of Harmon” or something along those lines, you instead wanted to agonistic. I am not interested in engaging into discussions where you take issue with what I have said without even offering an opinion of your own. It is very easy for a poster like you who routinely avoids putting themselves out there for scrutiny to point out what is wrong with the posts of those who do put themselves out there.

You are comparing Revis the best DB in the game sitting out to Harmon a second year player who was a depth player last year.

You seem like a good guy and you mean well, but why do these threads always happen to you?
