Siliga has some quality veterans to help him with the Patriots. Defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga has been a mentor for Siliga in the locker room and All-Pro defensive tackle Vince Wilfork always has some sage advice for the third-year player on the sideline during games.

A lot of folks here remember Brady's conspicuous absence from the sidelines in 2008. In retrospect, it seems clear that BB did that to lower the stress on Cassel, since Brady's presence on the sidelines would ultimately serve as a distraction. With Wilfork, however, it's clear that his presence on the sidelines is a net positive for this young defense, so he's around.

I think it's due to the DT position being less scrutinized in general, as well as having three guys in similar positions being right next to you, mitigating the pressure you'd feel as an individual. Cassel as the QB was in a high stress, high pressure position. Also, as much as I love Wilfork, he's not in the running for GOAT at his position like Brady is. Following up Brady is another animal altogether.

Cassell had also been here four and knew the system inside and out. the front seven is very young and can use the advice Mayo and Vince can give them.

Let's not forget though, that the patriots policy is for guys on IR to not be around the team. Wilfork specifically went to BB and asked him if he could be around the team, and BB agreed.

Put slightly differently, they're supposed to be heard (in private) and not seen (in public).

It's a good read, but I would like to know what has happened to editing news stories recently. At first glance I see the word "are" used where it should be "or" and a zero used instead of the letter o. I bet if I looked harder I could find more mistakes. I'm not trying to be the Internet grammar police here but I see more and more of this and it makes me think maybe I'm being too hard on my kids when I make them fix errors in their homework. Apparently the rules of the English language aren't important anymore.

Also of note to me in the story is how Sopoaga is acting as a mentor. To me this is impressive since he lost his job to Siliga but is still willing to help him. Kudos to him!

I think it was more about the whole injury secrecy thing

and that is also protecting the player (from the media). If he is there on sideline they can see how he moves, diagnose the status of his injury from week to week as cast is removed, splint removed etc and then they start asking 'how come he isnt active or practicing' - 'he looks heathy in his suit on the sideline?'

I heard that too, Did Mayo do the same? He's also on the sidelines.

What's Siligia's contract status. He is doing well for coming in so late in the season. Any shot of him sticking around next year when Vince returns ?
