Patriots Training Camp (Day 13)

Derek Havens ‏@PatriotsHaven 19m
#Patriots doing kickoff return drills. Washington showing incredible explosiveness, hoping to see the same this Friday vs Bucs.

Favorite drill. Brady leads 7-on-7 from 20 yard line. TB12 hits Fells down the seam twice in a row. #Patriots

Brady misses open Amendola in back of the end zone, just put too much on it. Brady yells, "Ooohhh!!!" And grabs his helmet. Toughest critic.

Brady led 7-on-7 has stalled twice in a row. Boyce beat Arrington deep, but ball went through is hands. Gostkowski hit two 50+ yard FGs

This is what makes Brady a football God. Tougher on himself than anyone could ever be, including BB.

Thanks guys; enjoying these while we can! Last day of camp is Thursday; after that, if my memory is correct media only have access for a short period at the start of practices, correct?

Besides a deep ball drop, Boyce has had a very good practice today. Making strong cuts and showing good hands. Want to see him go long more.

Devon McCourty got some work at corner today. He played opposite of Talib. A. Wilson and Gregory got the 1st team reps at safety

I said he was drafted to be McCourty's backup. He's looking promising.

Makes sense since we pretty much already know what we have in Gregory.

If Harmon really steps up it could help to make Gregory expendable, but I would have to think the odds of that occuring in the next few weeks wouldn't be more than about 30/70--maybe 40/60.

I'm not saying that Harmon won't continue to improve, because I agree with you that he will, but I think it'll be difficult for Harmon to fully make Gregory expendable in such a short period of time. Just an opinion.

It's sad that has to be pointed out before everyone jumps on you. Just like when I opined that two of three WR (Donald Jones, Michael Jenkins; J. Edelman) wouldn't make the team due to the rookie receivers. And I was admonished for my opinion....lol

If he turns out to be a 3rd round diamond I hope some people around here forgive BB for the Wilson pick.

I'm pretty sure just as many people whined and complained about the Harmon pick this year as they did the Wilson pick last year. You'll never make that crowd happy even if the player becomes an all-pro since BB went against the draftniks projections. They'll always resort to the "they still could've been drafted later" argument and never give credit where credit is due.

I think Dobson has a higher ceiling but we'll see more contribution from Boyce to start the season and he'll end up with more catches. Sort of like how the Serial Killer started much faster than Gronk during their rookie seasons.

I think all rookie receivers will contribute, if we can get 30+ receptions by all three, we will have a great season. The way I think it'll happen is:

Thompkins-45 catches
Dobson-40 catches
Boyce-25 catches

Aren't the same ones that hated the Wilson pick, the ones that hated the Harmon pick?

I don't think they are capable of forethought, much less forgiveness.

I like those numbers but I think it ends up being Dobson at the bottom. People are wowed by his hands and rightly so but what earns your keep with Brady is good route running.

I think there's also a pretty good chance that Belichick is simply mixing things up a bit, so that different players have opportunities with the first team.

My guess is that there probably isn't much to see either way, although it certainly is worth noting just the same.

Oh, I've been ripped on for stating my opinion which sometimes goes against the grain--and I'm sure I will be again in the future.

I loved the idea of going pro-offense in the 2011 draft, with choosing a QB in the first 3 rounds. That of course, didn't go over too well with the "pro-DE" heavy choices that just about everyone was dead set on.

Sometimes we're right, and sometimes we're wrong. ;)
