Gaffney Signed!!

Who's skill does Gaffney's most likely duplicate in terms of the type of routes he runs? Ocho, or at least what they planned for Ocho?

Gaffney, like Ochocinco, has the positional versatility to play split end or flanker, so that's definitely a plus. Especially since Branch and Lloyd are both pretty much exclusively flankers.

Gaffney's a solid receiver, but some of the responses here make it sound like we are getting a legit difference maker. He's a good complimentary receiver, that's it. If he gets cut before the season starts, would that even surprise us?

Yes, it would

Would it surprise me if a guy we signed for 2 years, knows the system, and just had the 3 best seasons of his career got cut in camp? Yes, yes it would.

Lloyd and Gaffney should start outside, Welker in the slot. Slater is the special teams ace so that leaves 2 wideout positions. I'm thinking Branch and Ocho but that will be decided in camp.

Stay healthy, fellers. Just stay healthy... please.

Of course it would surprise me. It should surprise you, too. He knows the offense, he has a great rapport with Brady, he's better than Branch in almost every way, and he just had a 68-947-5 with John Beck and Rex Grossman throwing him the ball.

One of us is clearly missing something, here.

How much of an improvement is Gaffney over Deion? Both are quick rather than fast who knows our system and how to exploit coverages but are not vertical threats.

If we had signed a big receiver who's legit deep threat, then I could really think about potentially crazy scoring numbers for our offense. I think we'll have an amazing offense next year anyways, Gaffney's not going to make or break it. It's a meh signing.

He's a #2 WR (proven by his last 3 seasons), whoks excelled in the system before, and will be the 3rd WR/5th option here.

Name a better 5th option in the league.

Lol Jabar Gaffney? Yeah one of us is missing something. I don't have my Patriot glasses on.

Who needs a running game when you've got a receiving corp this good? :p

Good addition.

Brady might if the defense can just peel it's ears back on every down and come after him. But yes, this is a ridiculously good signing. At least two WR's are gone. My picks are Stallworth/Gonzalez and Ocho. I would rather say goodbye to Gonzo, personally. Injury prone and slower. On top of that, Stallworth has experience playing with Brady.

So we are all getting excited for our 5th option on offense?

Props to Patchick who called it.

Branch's legs are completely shot. He gets no separation any more and never breaks tackles. Gaffney is a clear upgrade IMO.

Well we really don't have a #1 RB...

Am I the only one who doesn't feel that way? Ridley was a junior with just 1 year as a college starter, then didn't get an offseason because of the lockout, yet still put up 5.1 ypc as a rookie.

Oh, sorry, OT, back to Gaffney and the wide receivers...

This all reminds me of last season when the Pats seemed to sign every veteran d-lineman on the market, then sorted the wheat from the chaff. I'm very optimistic that Lloyd can be the Andre Carter of the bunch and Gaffney the Mark Anderson. It only takes one out of the group of Branch, Stallworth, Gonzalez and Ochocinco to rise to, say, Gerard Warren level.

This, and a draft loaded with pass rushers. Couldn't ask for a livelier offseason!

In one post, you accuse me of having my homer glasses on, then in the next you don't recognize that Gaffney is better than Branch? This is as much an indictment of Branch as an endorsement of Gaffney. I'm 50/50 on Branch making the roster, and TBH I kinda hope that he doesn't, because he doesn't look like he has much of anything left.

So, which part of my post wasn't correct? If it's so obvious that I'm wrong, surely you won't have any trouble pointing out how.

If Welker or Lloyd go down he'll be on the fieldas a starter in most formations, hell, he would've been a help starting in SB46.

Why so grouchy :D

In a passing league it can never hurt to have enough quality pass catchers.

If this doesn't light a fire under chad's ass then nothing will. He better be already starting his trainig camp workouts increasing his abilities and on that playbook. I would like to see him set up his own training camp with brady, the oline, and recievers to work on timing now.

I'm sure Brady has extra time to work with him in addition to the receivers that are actually going to be on the team.
