NESN:Pats loss would be worse than SB upset

This is one of those things people say to get a reaction.

I think going into the game the Pats matchup better against the Jets and it's at home, the 2010 pats are getting better, while the 07 pats slowing down towards the end. So I think this game is going to be easier to win, but you can't compare it to a game that would of changed Brady's Legacy.

Completely STUPID.
So losing a playoff game is worse than losing the SB in an otherwise undefeated season, because the team that beat us has big mouths?
Anyone who has ever played a sport at a high level understands that losing is losing and it doesnt feel better if you lose to a classy team.
This game would be the equivalent of losing to Denver in 2005.
Biggest game in franchise history, are you kidding me? It isnt even top 10.

By the way, what happens in this game does not change the direction the teams are headed in. When next year starts the outcome of this game is done and over, and irrelevant.

A loss today would be devastating to say the least. Right up there with the loss to the Colts in the '06 AFC Championship Game, BUT nothing, absolutely nothing will ever match the feeling after losing to the Giants in the SB and everything that was significant had the Patriots won.

The Patriots were 1 game away from 19-0 and were favored heavily against the Giants. I think it was the biggest statistical mismatch in NFL history. They lost on a fluke play made by a guy who's not even in football anymore. No loss will ever be as heartbreaking at SB 42

That's not accurate in the least. This team is young and improving, rebuilding, reloading. We will likely be better next year! Losing today would hurt a lot. It's the Jets. But we will be back.

After losing to the Giants there was also the devastating thought that we would likely never be in THAT situation again, 18-0, chasing perfection.

... same thing here in NY .. calling it biggest game ever ... we too are a young building team ... there will be some cleaning house of old age at the end of the year regardless ... LT, Taylor and Jenkins probably wont be back.

Totally agree. Losing today would be worse. We'd have to endure at least one more week of bloviation.

The SB loss was earned by the Patriots coaches and players. Poorly prepared for the Giants up the middle blitzkreig and slow to adjust. The Giants were well prepared, smart game plan and executed on the field. Pats put themselves in a position where misplays (missed INT, failure to take down Eli...) and a fluke catch could screw the pooch. Lost to the better team that day.

Unlike the class Giants org, the Jets epitomize everything wrong, starting at the top and drooling down all over the entire misbegotten enterprise. Losing today would be wimping out to the loudmouth bully. Time to punch out his lights.

Exactly. 10 chars.

I wouldn't say the loss would be more devastating but I haven't been this excited about a game since the '01 SB. Can't help how I feel.

Since the Pats first won the SB and Sox won the WS it was such a huge sigh of relief that I just seemed to have lost that fire as a fan. I thank Rex and the Jests for bringing that back. I never wanted the Pats to beat a team so bad. OK, maybe I do feel it would be more devastating

What a completely idiotic article. A shift of power in the AFC? What is this guy smoking? We are a young team with four picks before the Jets even make their first pick, and they have a few key players they won't be able to resign because there are too many FA's after this season.

Not quite. They still have their first, so, should the JEST win today, the Patriots would have two picks before the JEST's first pick, and then another four before the JEST's next pick (at the end of the third round).

Not even remotely close. Nowhere near.

Perfect season on the line
Superbowl championship on the line

Please in 2 years nobody will even remember this game happened regardless of the result. (Nobody outside of NY and Boston)

I didn't know a sporting event could make me feel so awful until the 07 season superbowl. I still get angry and sad to this day.

Wake me up when it's a Superbowl championsip. Otherwise, can't even compare them. Heck this isn't even an AFCCG.

This game isn't even close.

A loss here would suck. But it's not even close to losing against the Giants in the Superbowl. That game would have been perfection, a crowning achievement in the history of sports.

This game against the Jets is big, sure but no where near as crucial. Anyways I don't buy any of the media hype. New England will crush the Jets today.

I didn't watch or read anything football related until August of that year. That was clearly the worst loss. I can't think of a loss that COULD top it.

What a stupid thing to say

This team has surpassed every single persons expectations. What they've accomplished since last year is nothing short of incredible. No matter the outcome of this season, to say any part of it was, or could be disappointing is absurd.

Agree totally. Nothing will top the loss to the Giants. The Patriots gave done a lot better this year than I could ever dream of.

HELL NO. Come on. Nothing will compare to losing out on 19-0. I could fall into a wood chipper and my dying thought would be "still less painful than Super Bowl 42".

Amen to that my friend. I couldn't listen to sports radio for two weeks. It took that long for me to get over it and I still remember that monstrosity. That terrible loss to Baltimore last year, wiped away some of my trauma from that game. But it's still there in the back of my mind. Even if our guys make it to the big dance and win, that loss will still be there. I hate all things New York, and that dirty Jet commissioner too.

At the beginning of the season, I never even expected this team to get this far. That alone is an accomplishment in itself and a credit to our coaching staff. Anything they get after this point is gravy, IMO.

Not even close. My wife and I were talking this morning about hard losses. She's a rabid Ravens fan and she couldn't sleep at all last night after the way their game turned out. I was consoling her telling her that I still wake up with images of The Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned in my head, even today. That game scarred me big time.

I'm probably the only Pats fan who wouldn't have minded a Ravens win yesterday because at least with a Pats/Ravens AFCG one of us would've been happy. If the Pats lose today, the misery in the house will be unbearable.

A loss today would hurt. It would be disappointing an embarrassing.

For those of us who remember, with the exception of Game 6, Nothing, Nothing comes close to SB 42.

in the 2000s, i think it goes:

2008 SB 42
2003 Game 7
..
..
..big gap
..
..even bigger gap
..
..
..

2010 Game 6/7 (Celts)
2007 AFCCG
2010 Bruins/Flyers debacle

I agree with the consensus here. Its a divisional round game, no different from last year. If we lose, move on and think about next year.

The SB was a chance at immortality. The best team to ever step on the football field. It was such a gut wrenching loss.

If today's game is big because of the Jets' mouths, do I have to remind people how annoying Mercury Morris was leading up to the SB?
