Pats re-sign Jabar Gaffney [merged]

great signing. as others said, wish it was for longer, but his agents probably wisely pushed against that. its a good contract for both sides. allows NE the 2008 season to see if c-jax is worth anything. if he is, they won't need jab.

and this way jab gets a quick $2MM and still can set himself up for a big pay day in 2009.

and of course if cjax turns out to be a dud in 2008, pats can offer to extend gaffney.

Seeing what Brady did with this same group last year.....imagine what he may accomplish in the second year with the SAME group!! Moss y2, Jabbar y3, Welker y2, Jackson y??, Thomas y2, Watson y4, Vrabel y7 (joking)!!

This teams offense should really rock again....

I was thinking of that when trying to figure out what our offense will be like in another thread but didn't mention it. Good point. Last year was 1st with Moss, Welker and Washington. Gaffney's first training was last year. He signed in-season I believe in 06. I'm sure we won't score more points. But, I think we will be over 500.

Works for me. In a perfect world I would have preferred to retain Stallworth because I think he has the talent to be a 1b if anything happened to Randy. But I would have been a lot more concerned if we hadn't re-signed one of them. If Jab gets passed on the depth chart, so be it. If not, thank goodness we bought another year to figure that out.

I agree... great to have Jab back. Blocking TE and the draft is all D. Oh, and maybe O Lineman as well.

This is perfect. Our WR corps is pretty much all set now. I'd look for Gaffney to see more snaps a la Stallworth and for Washington and Jackson to make up the rest.

Re: Pats re-sign Jabar Gaffney

with Gaffney being back, thats awesome news. Now we can continue to dominate and try again for that Ring

Perfect. Now let's just get Law and one of the Haggans/Hobson/Morgan type LBs, and then build defensive depth in the draft.

I think this is , if chad jackson cant get it this yr, its over for him and a bigger pay day for gaff.. Not bad for a guy 2 yrs ago was out of the leauge..

Re: Pats re-sign Jabar Gaffney

I would assume a blocking te, but other than that, its time to focus on D...

Yes and more competition for the Oline .. whether by draft or FA.
But I can see a TE drafted.

Awesome news. Since it's a contract year for him again in 08, expect a solid year from Gaffney

Most pleased for Brady. The top 3 wideouts are intact -- no major adjustment period necessary.

Jackson better step up...because after Moss, he's the only real stretch-the-field option on the roster.

BTW -- I do like Gaffney.

Seriously, good for Gaffney. After David Carr tried his best to kill the career of everyone on that Houston offense, Gaffney was able to fight through and get his due.

But who actually comes out looking worst of all in this is Philly. They had nobody at WR and cut Gaffney. Just goes to show, one team's trash ...

I can't believe Gaf took the deal. He's certainly a better receiver that andre davis who got 8 mil guaranteed from the texans.

Might be for the best. We get to work Washington and Chad jack in slowly to see what we've got.

Hopefully Gaffney has a nice season and gets a mega contract somewhere.

Not that I don't want to keep him, but he's bound to outprice us with Moss and all.

I would love to see Chad Jackson step into a Stallworth role... we haven't seen enough of him, but he has the speed, but I wonder if he has the elusiveness that Stallworth had, but they both seem similar. Hopefully he steps up...

Well, you also have to factor in, I'm sure a lot of teams are looking at what (a healthy) Branch & Givens & Patten did outside of NE without Brady. So not sure there was a huge demand for Gaffney's services.

He will definately get his chance. He has been here long enough to learn the playbook. It's time for Chad to do something on the field now.

Good point. Gaffney didn't exactly set the world on fire before he came here either. Then again, he wasn't playing with Tom Brady in Houston either.

Just got in and caught it on the NFLN scroll. Jabs is back in the house, my night is made.
