Tom Brady to be honored at home opener

Minus Jalen Hurts not playing, the Pats are not going to beat the Eagles. What’s hilarious is that it’s a week 1 early afternoon game and no one around the country is going to be paying attention to Brady returning to Foxboro…
1. It‘s not an early afternoon start, it‘s a 4:25 start time.
2. We all know you will be paying attention to it.
3. We don’t care if the rest of the country is watching or not. This is his chance for him to be celebrated by the home crowd.

I know, but it's literally been rehashed with over 1000 posts in here and we're now at the point where it's been almost four years and the guy's retired. So that's essentially why it's time to let it go.

We all know what happened, whether any of us agree with it or not (I think the vast majority of people here were/are frustrated it came to that, so I feel like most of us are on the same page there), but "it is what it is." It's definitely a footnote in history, but not one that we need to keep arguing about over and over since I think most people are more or less together about it. The only difference just seems to be to what extent it irritates them.
So, what you're saying is I should cancel my "Was it TB or BB?" poll/thread before I post it?

Okay, I think it's much more than a footnote - I consider it on the level of the Parcells departure in its short and long term consequences. Again, within that forum, we can bandy it about forever if we want.

No question it's ancient history in the context of us playing today.

Posts have been moved out (again), and reply bans have been assessed.

We seriously can't just be cool with the guy being at the opener without all the other stuff? Unreal.

I don't know ... Parcells was a little different. He sort of really put the team in a tough spot and then took the knife and twisted it. I get he was mad over the personnel issues, but he went to a different level.

Brady left with dignity and handled himself with class, and clearly a lot of whatever animosity there was at least was discussed behind closed doors and it never got as ugly. Granted, it stinks, but I mean he left in his 40s, not early 30s.

I mean, if he pulled a Rodgers and whined about Jimmy and forced his way out and then went on to play almost another decade, I think it would have been worse. Or if Belichick actually did something crazy and dealt him with that much tread left on the tires. I think the ire would be far greater, and far more rightfully deserved.

He basically lasted three years after leaving here...could have been way worse. Again, hated it when it happened, but I get why they did it and they were able to get out of cap jail fast enough to at least remain competitive due to how they handled it.

when I lie on my death bed eating ice chips I know the one regret I will have is that I did not spend more of my limited time sh%tposting about either Brady or BB.

Anything on Brady signing a one day contract and retiring?

For players who do that would it restart their 5 year HOF clock? Just curious.

It's my fault for being informed, and I tend to be a party pooper (no surprise I don't get more invites).

Tom's always publicly taken the high road (Suspended. Like Greg Hardy. For something he and the team did not do, and even if they did it barely warranted a punishment).

Brady being a career Patriot is a no-brainer. It took a colossal, flying elvis-level disconnect from Kraft to accomplish, demonstrating that the guy learned nothing from the Parcells thing. He likes Belichick and does not like Parcells, just as he likes Bledsoe and while he appreciates Brady... well... anyway Bob can't just pretend BB is Alan Eagleson.

Let me be more frank and specific: Robert Kraft says "I'm the boss!" and expects everyone to straighten up and fly right. Anyone, no matter who they are, how accomplished they are or how much they've contributed and brought success to his franchise, who doesn't dance to his tune can hit the road.

Bob Kraft believes he can buy respect. He does not know that respect is earned, by showing it.

The official by-laws that outline the Pro Football Hall of Fame's selection process states any player is eligible when he, "has not played or been on an active regular- or post-season player roster for five consecutive seasons."

A one-day contract wouldn't involve being placed on an active roster so it would have no effect.

I mean, he owns the team. He's the boss. Like any other boss, you can have your problems with him or her, but at the end of the day, it's more important to be consistent than a nice guy. He extends his respect from day 1 by letting football people make the football calls and most of the personnel calls. He has the right to say "look, this isn't a mickey mouse team. I don't act capriciously, and in return I don't tolerate multiple agendas."

It might never work again, but it worked 9 times in 18 years if "working" means a super bowl berth, and more than that if we mean a conference championship appearance. It's been a hugely successful couple of decades.

Is Kraft coducive to winning? Very much so. It can be said the owner has nothing to do with winning/losing. If so we can shut up about the Kraft influence. But it might also be that the owner can be judged for the team's performance, in which case, just shut up about Kraft, because he's winny not losey.

Now we might not like him -- me, I'm okay with him -- but what we can't say is "typical Kraft move. what a loser"

He is a great owner.

He's also one of the hardest working owners.

Remember: When he bought the Patriots, he made it clear his determination to bring a championship to New England. And he delivered.

Brilliant moves: Buying and keeping the stadium property, paying a record sum to purchase a moribund franchise, finding a way to keep it in Massachusetts and hiring Bill Belichick.

So criticism looks like nitpicking. The same determination to succeed is unfathomable stubbornness and refusal to grow, learn and exercise the humility that he eloquently pontificates about.

It's just frustrating to see the dumb stuff. Throwing a tantrum over a former player's retirement statement when it's his own fault the guy ever left.
