Bloody sock, meet broken hand.

The Boston Red Sox's 2007 run to the World Series championship gained a medical legend of its own when second baseman Dustin Pedroia revealed he played the last two months of the season and the playoffs with a cracked hamate bone in his left hand, the Boston Herald reported.

Pedroia's injury was discovered by an MRI and bone scan on Sept. 10, but the second baseman, a favorite to win the American League Rookie of the Year award, didn't have surgery until Tuesday and is wearing a soft cast. He doesn't know when the injury occured, according to the report.

"It was just one of those things you know you have to take care of after the season, but you have to play through," Pedroia said, according to the Herald. "A lot of guys have done that. You definitely don't want to shut it down and have surgery during the whole thing. We just had to find a way to fight through it."

and then he wins ROTY.

amazing.

Well deserved, congrats Dustin!

He not only had dazzling plays in the field (I remember the Yankee series) he was clutch at the plate. On top of that, he is a character (lazer show at 7:30). This guy may become one for the ages.

really like this kid, he will be with us for a few years.. glad to see he got his due when picked for ROTY.

Congrats Dustin, and now lets hope that Beckett gets Cy Young
