Mortensen: Rodney Harrison to be suspended 4 games for Human Growth Hormone

I suppose. I don't even think the NFL has any real policy on HGH. It's un-testable.
Ah, but he wasn't tested. He was asked and admitted it.

Come on guys, let's get real. As much fun as it is to poke at Merry-man for doing stuff, HGH is in heavy use in the NFL. I'm not making excuses for Rodney but I'm not shocked by it at all.

1) There is no test for it.
2) It works great.
3) There is no test for it.
4) It works great

Repeat 1 & 2.

And a good thing too, we don't want him going to jail for hindering a federal investigation.

I bet this thing has legs all through the NFL.

This is very disappointing, but a lot more understandable than many other instances of banned substance use in professional sports. I can't bring myself to be as hard on guys who use substances to recover from injuries and protect their livelihood as I am on out and out cheaters like, say, Barry Bonds. Yes, it was the wrong thing to do, but I'm glad Rodney is standing up and accepting responsibility without making excuses, and for now, I view this as a very unfortunate choice and a serious mistake, not something that should tarnish his career and legacy.

He apologized and it sure was sincere.

Will the media let it go or will they try to destroy him?

It was not steroids and he acted alone...will the media let be as it really is??

Will Rodney himself walk away with a broken heart if this does get blown way out of proportion??

This news is a very disappointing brush with reality.

I'm a realist here. Like many of you, I think much of the NFL uses HGH. In their position, so would I. Look at the injuries Rodney has had in the past several years. And he's now 34? It's unfortunate that this has happened, but it's not a big surprise at all.

That said, I love Rodney and I always will. Someone posted earlier "remember what happened when Merriman was suspended?" I thought about this, and the answer is, I actually don't remember. Does anyone talk about it anymore? Didn't the guy go to the Pro Bowl? Is anyone stating with any authority that the Chargers 14-2 record last year was tainted? I don't think so.

Rodney, I hope to see you back soon. I'm really sorry that this happened. Personally, I blame the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Surprisingly Felger agreed with me, saying the worst thing that he did - relative to many others in the NFL - is get caught.

Exactly. Let people jump off the bridge. It's a black eye and an embarrassment but half the NFL is probably sweating bullets right now, wondering if they have anything on them. lol

I just heard that...so far so good. Good point by Felger, why should he be singled out??

Wait till the Globe gets going though...and freaking Borges.

Felger-Harrison

******News Flash********

Felger is disappointed by Harrison's involvement with HGH. SHOCKING!

In fairness, he said he was happy RH was forthright and contrite and is sure there's tons of other guys just as guilty.

Remember that PFT piece this morning said "multiple" suspensions could be made public.

I wonder who's next?

Yeah, let's see what happens. But who else is willing to confess?
Sounds like the investigation is moving forward. Felger said an NFL assistant was on the list with over $150K of HGH purchases - ask Michael Vick how federal investigations go. :)

I blame this on Barry Bonds and President Bush for his insistence in removing them from sports.;)

Nor am I, to be honest.

And who gives a crap what the rest of the league or their fans think?

But perhaps someone can clear this up: why does the league ban HGH when it helps players recover from devastating illnesses?

Yeah, I'd like an answer about that as well. When I was injured in a helo accident in the Navy, HGH was a part of my recovery regimine, along with PT and other meds, etc. It was prescribed and administered by military doctors. I didn't give it a second thought.

All I know is that I can walk again, and have a fairly normal life. How much of that was due to HGH I can't say. But I don't have any long-term problems because of it, either.

Respects,

I'm sure there will be many other suspensions (hope no more from our team!). Hopefully, this will give trollish fans of other teams pause before they run their mouths over here...it would be supremely naive to believe their own teams' players were clean.

Let's hope that Rodney isn't the only big name because it will make him look like a scape goat otherwise.

Anybody else share my petty, contemptible wish for a whole group of suspensions so that Rodney doesn't have to bear the brunt of the scorn?

This is true. As a Bolts fan I always liked Rodney and it's unfortunate that this has happened. RH is manning up and it will be forgotten in due time. You'll be alright.

I just wish more pats fans could have shown a little more class when the Merriman episode occured. I'm not gonna dig up old threads but it wasn't pretty. I know you'll all keep your heads up and get thru this.

On another note, how do you feel about RH's replacement?
