Felt he was so overrated recently.

Will be interesting to see how shows up for the Cards

Very good player but still a bit overrated. Always was. There were a number of big games where he just disappeared and was a non factor. Not quite elite, and not worth the big contract when we need to shell out money to more valuable defensive pieces.

He will be missed but we've survived bigger losses.

If his point is that the Patriots have a reputation as a franchise which typically refuses to pay its players the "going rate", he's correct. If his point is that the Patriots have the reputation as a team which doesn't pay its players the money they deserve, he's correct. The real question is whether those reputations are warranted and supported by fact. I don't believe they are, but some people, many of them players, evidently do. I just don't care and that feeling is simply in line with the way I feel about anything negative that anyone believes about the Patriots. I simply don't give a sh##.

Any NFL team that can afford to pay all of its players what they deserve probably has a pretty crappy roster.

Last I checked the Patriots pay out in salary as much as any team out there.

The difference is their middle class/middle of the roster is getting some of the money that other teams are paying a very select few.

But they are still getting paid.

Let's assume a team has a $159M cap for its 53 roster spots. That's $3M per roster spot.

If their QB is making $20.5M per year, that's $17.5M above the average allotment. That requires seven rookies just to balance it out.

If you're trying to say that the Patriots are known for "paying guys", you're insane, because they certainly are not. If you're not trying to say that, you've got no real point.
I have to disagree with this. If you compare the Pats to other teams, they don't pay as much (to big players), but teams like that generally don't win a lot either. You can't overpay. These guys make plenty of money. Some teams just feel they will win with a few high profile players. IMO

Chandler never made the play when it mattered, especially against top competition, and fades down the stretch Jones? Man, I can't wait to see what his excuse makers have to say about this one.

BREAKING NEWS (not really): Patriots respond. Say Jones not known to do **** against top competition and he couldn't find the edge, much less set it.

I dunno bout not paying top players, I can name a lot of peeps that have gotten paid by this team, even if that isn't the case they're contending for a championship almost every single year so their system works. Count me in for someone who would of liked to see Jones still on the team, but with his inconsistency in the playoffs the patriots have three much more important players to take care of. I would take 54,91, and 21 over Jones any given Sunday.

Every preseason the same.
Jones put extra leg muscles, this will be his season.
Jones work with his brother and work on upper body strenght, Strahan sack record is gone.
Jones worked bla bla.
And every regular season the same effect. He abused some tackles and get abused from some tackles. Depends on Tackle. Maybe sometimes the game plan was to contain the pocket so maybe not his fault but still.
I really like his attitude in games where he cheer for the team, but i think that synthetic marijuana scandal blew his low possible chance to stay here. And i am happy with this trade. Maybe the plan is to extend Sheard not Jones.

And one more thing about paying the guys.
As a player would you rather be top paid player or be paid in top 10 and on the every year chance to win SB team?
And if i read correctly from patscap guru Miguel i think that Gronk is top paid TE. Not sure about this.

If I had a choice between:
A. endowing another generation of my family by making a few million more, vs.
B. having the personal satisfaction of being a champion,

I'd go with option A as well. Option B would be selfish, putting my short term emotional satisfaction in front of the education, health care, housing, etc. of people I love (or people in need, if I gave it to a productive charity).

Wait until Felger hears this he can rant and rave for days with his familiar, "Cap is Crap"....

Every year the Pats spend what they can under the cap, and need to be vigilant as Goodell's minions on Park Av. watch closely and make sure that the Pats do not violate the "integrity" of the game..

That's ridiculous. We're not talking about the difference between poverty and, say, five million dollars. The upper-tier players are already rich. All they have to do is not be complete dunces with their money and their family is set for life. And if they are dunces, the extra millions won't make a difference.

If I could retire with $40M and no ring, or $35M with a ring(s), I'm taking the latter in a heartbeat. There's no selfishness involved, especially when champs make more post-NFL money.

I've said this exact thing for years now. Good post.

As a fan of a winning, everyone should envy the way we spend money. We have a strong middle class. Basically, BB should be running for president.

I love this team but if I for one second put myself in the player's shoes it is easy to see this is not the team to play for if you have dreams of being filthy rich. In your mind, you are the best and expect to break the bank. Even our big deals seem modest. For wins and super bowls alone, Brady's salary should be double everyones, even Peyton Manning, but because of his selflessness it is more in line with bums like Tannehill.

If I am going to risk tearing my acl and going ******ed from concussions, I want to to be paid. Ideal landing spots are obviously Oakland and the Redskins. Miami is also attractive(Suh) from a tax perspective off the top of my head.

Apparently if something gets repeated often enough, it becomes accepted as truth.
Yup, as is the case with most of the BS people spew about the Pats.

This really irks me. He's inconsistent and never makes the big play. He can't set the edge. And he disappears EVERY year around Thanksgiving. He was even benched in the AFCCG. Yet he's talking like he's Logan Mankins or Wilfork, guys who had a real right to be upset when it seemed they wouldn't get paid what they deserved. I really likED Jones and said I'd rather have him IF the price was right. But now it's good riddance to that overrated bum. Enjoy being closer to real and synthetic herb. See you in the playoffs. Wait, no I won't because you're invisible past week 8 of the regular season, you schmuck.

And whatever we are paying Gronk, the Lions would've found a way to double it like yesterday lol.
