Is it me, or does this Celtics team remind me of the 2001 Patriots?

They're a scrappy gritty team of underdogs that plays defense....they are well-coached with a team-first philosophy, and they always gives max effort!

The way they came into Oakland and defeated the Warriors (snapping a 53-home game winning streak) proved as much! Don't sleep on this team

An extraordinarily acute observation, my friend!!

I love this Celtics team.

Unlike the NFL, in the NBA talent wins out.

I think as long as they avoid CLE early they have a shot to make it to the ECFs.

I think the Celtics are playing hard and over achieving, but in the NBA you are very unlikely to see a Cinderella story happen like a team with no superstar win the NBA championship. Different sports and sooner or later talent wins out in seven game playoff series.

It's not you. They are an absolute pleasure to watch. They aren't winning the title this year, but they're close to being a serious title contender. They need another really good player, plus perhaps another good player and they'll be right there.

The need a basket protector and a 20/10 guy and they are there.

Isiah Thomas is a little too schoolyard for me but he's great to watch. Smart will be there soon enough.

I want Russell, Orr, Brady , Papi, KG, BB and anyone else calling KD and have him get his ass up here.

If your version of the 2001 Patriots got blownout by the Steelers in the AFCCG then sure. Because that's essentially what's going to happen to the Celtics soon.

Gritty and well coached underdog teams simply cannot win a title in the NBA. It's just not how the sport works.

I hope the Cs win it all, but win a series and I'll be happy....

3 first round draft picks this year can only help.................

Guess it's time for this fairweather fan to jump on the bandwagon.

Yeah I'm one of them.

Not a big Basketball fan but do enjoy watching an underdog Boston team upsetting the favorite.

Very rare for the whole to be better than its parts….but that's this Celtics team….manned by cast offs from the Island of Misfit Toys. Let's get a legit big in the middle next year and see a quantum leap up the food chain. The beauty of this roster is the cheap contracts of Thomas and Crowder…all Danny has to do is convince warm weather loving NBA FA talent to spend winters in Boston with the pasty locals.

Yeah, the Celtics can be fun to watch, but I don't find the teams all that similar.

The Patriots were a wagon at the end of 2001, winning 11 of their last 12 games, with their only loss during that stretch being the first meeting against the Rams.

The Celtics, on the other hand, are a decent NBA team that happens to match up well against the guard-centric Warriors, because Bradley, Smart and Crowder are excellent defenders of smaller players, and they can limit the likes of Curry, Thompson and Green better than most teams.

I love the thought but they still don't have enough talent to win a critical 7 game series

But I for one wasn't shocked they beat the Warriors. They play a similar style of game and even though the Cavs beat them in 4 games in the playoffs last year, the Celtics actually played the Cavs tougher than anyone except the Warriors

That being said this is still a team that lost to Brooklyn. Twice.

Ainge is still about 2 players removed from where he knows he has to be to truly have a contender

One of those players could come from the draft this year, but we need a quality veteran in free agency as well

There's so many moving parts to NBA team mechanics that ultimately Ainge could be a genius but it still comes down to luck... whether a free agent will chose Boston and whether the draft - a crap shoot by nature - results in a franchise player.

I'd say I'd be all for Ainge moving up to grab whoever he likes - however past rumors about who Ainge has liked haven't had me feeling all that confident.

Still - credit where credit is due. Stevens has taught this team how to win - conversely look at the 76ers and their perpetual top of the lottery leaving them seemingly always in last place.

I know fans get excited about top picks but I much prefer winning now - and who knows, as with the 2001 Patriots maybe they get ultra hot at the right time.

The list of talented players who'll be talked about is going to be relatively long. Six that we've already heard about are:

Okafor
Butler
Russell
Cousins
Durant (free agency)
Horford (free agency)

It may not amount to anything in the end, but this is a good year to have enough so-called 'assets' to deal for players with issues.

I'm actually hoping they'll be like the 2007 Giants.
