Most of the players on the free agent market are quite frankly just bad and will be overpaid, and most of the ones who are not bad are still going to be massively overpaid for their value. The key is finding the ones that aren't bad and won't blow up your financial structure.

Joe Haden and Gordon for Jones. A lot of if's we absorb, but the upside is great. Haden had 2 concussions last year. You have to get what you can get for Jones NOW. or $15mm next year or is BB opting for that oh-so-valuable 3rd Round Comp pick? Or let's Trade Jones for picks.

Does everyone on this forum understand that this years Draft class other than D Line is awful? Please don't throw...."lets wait for the Draft" crap.

In what fantasy land do you live in where you think Cleveland would make that trade

Oooh it's getting all panicky like a game day thread up in here I love it

2016 is doomed!!!!

#seasonover
#onto2017

We could sign zero FAs + draft zero players and I think I would still call us the AFC favorites, especially considering the players DEN + CIN are losing.

Anyone who thinks Mike Wallace/Percy Harvin would make for good signings must think it's 2012 again or something.

Harvin doesn't want to play football anymore. Wallace had a bad year with a weak-armed quarterback but was effective as the Dolphins #1 and was a star the last time he played with a good QB.

Is true. I could see a public/media swell for PIT or IND as faves if in fact the Patriots literally did not add anyone but they'd still be right up there.

Not overpaying for average FAs is where having TB and all the roster depth we all praised BB for developing last season pays off.

Take a breath and say this with me ....."$15 million dollars to keep Jones".

You could get a recommitted Chris Long for less than a third of that while you are rotating in Flowers and Grissom. Long puts up 10-12 sacks in Jones slot this year is my guess. Smart thinking by BB to stock up at DEs last Draft when he knew the Jones contract was coming.

IDK if it would be 15. I'd go up to 9-10 but 15 is a lot. I highly doubt it would be that much. If so trade him cause that is what you pay Von Miller and JJ Watt not Chandler Jones.

5 times more expensive as well

This is totally nonsensical. Jones had 12.5 sacks last season; Long had that many once in his career, and that was in 2011. Chris Long would have been 5 times more expensive than he was now in 2011, too. Now you're suggesting replacing a guy in his prime (who's still got a year left on his contract) with a warm body whose best years are far behind him because he'll come cheap.

Chris Long has put up double-digit sacks twice in his career and has basically been totally ineffective since 2013.
I know he has had injuries but now healthy. So you want Jones who will command $15mm next year and we get that cool 3rd Round Comp pick? Or you want a serviceable Chris Long and develop Flowers and Grissom? Jones has only had two seasons with over 10 sacks as well. Long never missed a game his first six years. Long has missed 10.9% of his games in eight years and Chandler Jone has missed 15% of his games in four.

This is always enjoyable to extol the virtues of a player match up, but after seeing numbers today financially, moving Jones makes a lot of sense if we plan to keep Hightower, Collins and Butler too. Jones will never be worth more than now.

My point is Long is the bridge for now.

Let me clarify Tre Flowers Geneo Grissom RUFUS Johnson and possibly Akiem Hicks and rookies make trading Chandler now a viable option vs losing him and only receiving a third round pick which we will more than likely squander when you can get a difference maker at a position with little depth.
Wide Receiver

We go through this every off season and pre season.

The Pats don't sign the big money, big name players, people lose their minds over the JAGs we sign but quite a few of the Wes Welkers, Dion Lewis', Rob Ninkovichs, Akeem Ayers, Jabaal Sheards, Alan Branchs etc etc seem to work out every year.

I'm surprised people haven't started dumping on Brady and Edelman yet. "These bums haven't won squat lately. 18 pts in DENVER?!??!?"

We need to make a big move to show TB we will let him chase more superbowls as well as prove without a doubt who is the GOAT.
Paying the moon for Marvin Jones is not the answer but we need a difference maker Marvin at 5 mill love it Marvin at 8 mill enjoy mediocrity and a cesspool of a city

Reasonable post.

Huh?

Hicks is the only guy you mentioned with any track record and none replace Jones. Making the team worse going into next season makes absolutely no sense.

What have Flowers, Grissom and Johnson shown till now to give you such confidence? Flowers played like three snaps all year.
