"Based on multiple reports from multiple members of the small army of reporters who are employed directly by the NFL, the Raiders have violated this provision by striking an “agreement in principle” with guard Kelechi Osemele."

I don't see the issue with this. But according to Florio it violates the rules.

Here's a quote from the League's own memo:

“During the two-day negotiating period, all clubs may negotiate all aspects of an NFL Player Contract with the certified agent of any prospective UFA,” explains the March 2 memo to all teams, a copy of which PFT has obtained. “However, a new club may not execute an NFL Player Contract with a prospective UFA until 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 9, when the player’s 2015 contract expires.”

That's how I'm understanding it. So then what the hell is Florio mad about??
I thought the principal part meant that they haven't officially agreed but have unoffically agreed. Isn't Florio a lawyer?

He is but I think he's full of hot air on this one. Or maybe just low 0.2 PSI of hot air.

Florio is reporting that you can't execute or agree in principal to a deal - you can only discuss and negotiate.

His issue is with the NFL for having watchdogs try to nail teams for violations but at the same time they promote the activity.

He is arguing that the league should allow agreements in principal and then the player can pick the best deal.

The league is dumb. Are these people businessmen or clowns?

Dumb question.

Agreed. I thought it meant even slightly less than that: that the parties have agreed on all of the significant principles in the contract, but it has not yet been signed. If that's the case, it seems like an agreement in principle is well within the rules of the legal tampering window.

What a stupid rule. It's a logical impossibility to say that you can negotiate but you can't reach any kind of agreement, even an informal one. What happens when you manage to negotiate terms that both parties find acceptable? Do you just stop talking, turn around, and walk out without saying a word? And at a certain point wouldn't that just become a tacit agreement in its own right?

And TB spent a majority of the Denver game on his back. So please let us who don't want such a thing to happen again stand wherever the hell we want.

Johnson turned down double to stay in Car...holy bargin of FA

The big problem I have is we are hearing about these deals. If you want a deal in principle fine. I agree and see no problem with that.

Just don't be saying or leaking anything until FA officially begins. That's why people can't have nice things. I shouldn't know that Mario Williams is signing with Miami. Or that Jax will sign who they will. Not yet at least.

Another reason not to stand on the ledge at midnight - free agency doesn't start til 4:00 pm ET tomorrow. You'll be on the ledge for 16 hours!

He gets added to my list of smart athletes where winning is more important than the most money.

Bravo.

Not many out there. Just like the only reason FAs go to the Jags is to get paid. Those guys can't care about winning that much to go there

The NFC South is a mess. Good enough to see he's realized the grass is not greener.

Like I said in a previous thread a few days ago. He must have had a discussion with his 10 year old self who told him he's a moron for thinking about going to a place where winning isn't a sure thing by far for more money.

It's beyond stupid. They have no infrastructure to enforce it. Tampering and wooing is part of free agency. It is what it is.

I propose once a player is a FA then teams can talk to him (which happens now) Only at the start of the league year can contracts be submitted to the league for approval (which they do now,). If they want to add a provision that the player has agreed in principal with a team thus taking him off the market (which takes some of the sliminess out of the process) then fine. Simple.

Same thing happened last year with Miami and Suh, nothing happened, it's a dumb rule and the NFL knows it's dumb.

Bruce Irvin to the Raiders. Keep telling people they will be a force next year. Irvin and Mack.....shudder.

They can absolutely go 9-7 or maybe 10-6. Del Rio is an average coach and that sometimes is enough to guide a team to a winning record.

well they can certainly beat denver in at least 1 game, which could help us with the number 1 seed.
