Chip Kelly to Patriots as OC is an intriguing possibility

Kelly's offense sputtered. His team finished 26th in the NFL in yards per play. He reportedly upset nearly everyone in his path (see McCoy, Jackson, Boykin, Murray... the list goes on).

He was labeled a racist, then a tyrant who was "uncomfortable around grown men of our culture.”

He even reportedly ruined Christmas.

When things went south for Chip Kelly, there was almost no one to defend him.

Except one man: Bill Belichick.

It would deviate from the norm. When is the last time we brought in a coach that wasn't homegrown or at least had a major connection to Belichick?

Typical news media trying to connect the dots. Not happening. Daboll is the next OC who this board will want out of town after the first 3 and out. He has earned that right.

Oh God no

I think Belichick might give him a job to keep him busy ... but not that job.

It would be amazingly interesting to watch.

Unfortunately, I doubt he will interested in OC positions but working with BB/Brady might be a once in a lifetime chance for him.

Also I would be surprised if we hired from outside no matter how great Kelly would be as a OC.

I don't think Chip is a guy who would work as a coordinator, not yet anyways. I think he'd rather run a program and do things his way rather than having to buy into another philosophy.

Similar with Rex, who I'd love to have here as a DC. I also don't think Belichick would just give up on a philosophy to which he has adhered for a long time now on either side of the ball.

Hell no. We don't need a maniac with a 'system'.

I don't know about as an assistant but if he doesn't get a job this year I hope they use him as an advisor much as they've done with Lombardi and Schiano. For his faults, Chip Kelly has some fairly unique insight on offense that I'd like to see be, at least, considered by the Pats.

What insights of his would you like to see the Pats consider?

no. i hate the constant hurry up offense.

The hurry up offense has pitfalls. Your team scores too quickly and places the defense right back on the field. Furthermore, the offensive players get worn out as well. IMO, its not an offense that can function in a brutal 16 game NFL season.

There is a balance and a time to use the hurry up and a time to methodically burn clock.

F.ck that. It's a terrible idea. This is Brady's offense not chip f.cking kelly. Great way to ruin their offense.

Well he helped us with the no huddle offense. He's one of the top thinkers on offensive play, I'm sure he has plenty to share.

Different sport but anybody recall the Lakers vs Celtics games of old?

The Lakers loved the fast break game and to run the floor and the Celtics did everything they could to slow the game down and take LA out of their rhythm. The Celts game was just as good as the Lakers game if not better.

Great idea! Kelly certainly can coach up Brady to run the read-option.

Doubtful Kelly would even consider it even if BB offered which I also highly doubt. At worst he will go back to being a college HC.

You can never score too quickly. It doesn't matter how fast you out the defense back in the filed if you did it with a TD. The problem is failing quickly.
