Rob Gronkowski injury

Now he is releasing videos on his health? WTH? This is like Rex Ryan nation stuff.

At least minor injuries let the player recover from any other nagging issues that he may have. Expect Gronk to be fresh when he returns. Would be cool to see Gronk blocking Watt in a couple of weeks, however.

Mandatory video post:

I wouldn't assume that a joint statement means there's no conflict. Especially given the video Gronk released where he says he's waiting until he's "100 percent". Really?? If you're medically cleared to play and coach wants you out there because 80% of you is better than anything else he has, you go and play. What's this "waiting until I'm 100%" BS??

So yes, I think just the opposite. When the hell before have the BB-era Pats issued a joint statement about an injured player?

I think this means they are in conflict, both sides acknowledge the conflict, and put this out as a negotiated statement so that when the media asks anything both sides can say "see the statement".

The Pats rushed him back before and that didnt end well, that might have left some bad feelings, so I understand their position, but this statement is a little over the top, handle things internally, family involved? Wtf?

Where is this video?

People are making too much of it. He'll be back for the playoffs and he'll help us win another SB. That's all that matters.

I actually met Gronk this season at a corporate function. He was paid for the appearance and it was quite a show and he is a great guy. One thing I noticed though is that he really is a corporation and entertainer unto himself with big plans besides just the football. I do strongly believe that he has a mind of his own and that his "Gronk" is his brand and his career means more than just the rings. He struggles badly when hurt in games like Super Bowl 46. He wants to be 100% when he plays because he wants the brand to last. That said, in the NFL, in a race for a Super Bowl... I would consider it selfish as hell to require 100% health to help get number 5. Hopefully that is really just an expression by him at this point and not literal.

I don't see any indication that he's going to hold out for selfish reasons.

Gronk: "When I am 100 percent, feeling good, cleared by all the doctors, the team, that is when I will be back."

It's the stressing of 100% which he repeats a few times which is odd. No way that is in line with Belichick. In fact it definitely is not. There is clearly an issue between the Gronks and the team specifically related to his coming back from this. What if he is 85% at the Divisional round? No time table was the exact words. 100% is odd.

That is being selfish. When you are medically-cleared (assuming the doctors aren't quacks, and I'm totally fine with seeking a 2nd opinion and not trusting team doctors) you are available to play whether or not you're 100%. Once you're cleared to play it is no longer your decision to not play, it is the coach's.

Looks right to me. You think he should come back before the team clears him to play? Nonsense.

It should be when I have no further risk of damage to the area, and pain is all there is. We know there have been several times TB played with much less than 100 percent.

It's Gronk, and a right minded Gronk is better than not I suppose.

Yes. And the video is also a "tell". Extremely strange thing for a Patriots player injured. If he is medically cleared to play, and says he does not feel well enough doc him the game checks. I don't care how much I love him. Brady has played 16 games and playoffs then goes to surgery immediately in the off season several times. That is what a champion is made of. What does 100% even mean? If he is cleared to play then it is irrelevant. Amedola is probably going to play at less than 100%. No way Edleman will be 100% when he comes back. **** we are just hoping he is able to make it all, and he would probably limp out there. This 100% and video is clearly a reaction to the Patriots coming out with the positive news of the MRI not being serious. Gronk wanted to make sure everyone knew it would be up to him. I am disappointed.

I'm assuming (perhaps naively) that "medically cleared" implies that there's no further risk of damage (beyond the background risk of being a football player). If if doesn't, I agree with you the player shouldn't play if playing on it before 100% health can cause a higher risk of reinjury. But once it won't, the player is being selfish for waiting for 100%. Especially at this point in the season. No one's 100%.

I would say it is clear Gronk is officially a special case on the team. He is a mega super star. No way the video is from the Patriots happily.

Next time, don't have quack team doctors that clear someone to play and have them re-break their arm on the first play.

We need him to come back before the playoffs. Knock some rust off. I just don't wanna lose that HFA opportunity

In fairness to Gronk and his family, he probably re-broke his forearm coming back too soon from the original injury and im sure was pressured to play. I'm sure they remember that and vow to never rush him back again
