Gronk being singled out by the league on OPI

Consistency really is the problem. It seems like the Refs have said "He's so freaking big and fast, that you can't really cover him normaly, so go ahead and play physical". And that would be OK if that was allowed with all TEs, and if Gronk could play that way against the people in coverage. There needs to be consistency in what's allowed and what's not. Right now they are just making it up as they go.

You hit the crux of the entirety of refereeing issues that we have seen in the last few years.

You want to have a byzantine, non-transparent definition of a catch in football ? Sure you can do that but then APPLY IT CONSISTENTLY.

You want to protect quarterbacks because they are the faces of the NFL and to do that you protect them via "roughing the passer" penalties ? Great, but ****ING ENFORCE IT CONSISTENTLY.

You want high scoring games and limit what defensive backs are allowed to do ? Fine, BUT THEN APPLY THOSE DAMN RULES CONSISTENTLY.

If you can't enforce anything consistently it goes to show that a) there is no integrity in this game and b) your rules are **** because they are not enforceable in a fair manner.

This. The lack of consistency is maddening. How could anyone watch that game and feel good about the outcome?

Honestly it's become apparent the last three games that the league is going to do whatever it can to stop the Patriots from winning the SB and further rubbing it in their collective mugs. Mission one accomplished stopping them from going unbeaten. I can only imagine how bad it will get come playoff time.

BTW there was a hands to the face worse than the one called on Volmer, which was a correct call, that the refs let go on Denver's go ahead TD in regulation. Couple that with the ticky tack call on Chung and it was obvious there was home cooking going on.

No need for future players. The way the league office runs the league, the bad officiating and the concussion issues there won't be any interest in the NFL.

Gifford's name being associated with brain injury and being well known will force parents and schools to reconsider their kids playing football. Young kids can't handle head injuries. The new movie coming out will bring more attention to brain injuries. Football medical insurance will go sky high. High schools will eliminate football from their sports programs, etc.

Except for they have a hell of a propaganda machine out there trying to brainwash Mom into allowing their 6 yo kids to wear helmets and tackle.

You should have heard the NBC crew before the afternoon game talk about the Rams QB concussion play, everyone around the table said the same thing: but the league is so much better now, youth coaches are being trained, I was hit and I'm fine. It was like they were handed talking points by "the League," disgusting. No independent media left.

Every Great Offensive player push off Megatron - Dez Bryant - Julio Jones - A.J. Green to name a few but we are only going to call OPI on Gronk brillant NFL.

The OPI "emphasis", the taking of first round draft picks, the entire off season charade, the huge amount of games vs teams with extra rest, the exorbitant amount of prime time games, the shameful blatantly biased officiating...it's all about the integrity of the game, folks

Just have to make sure everyone's on the same playing field, right Coach 'Stache? Right Brother John? Right Grigson?:mad::mad:

It's supposed to be ok as long as you don't extend your arms, Gronk didn't extend last night, if the defender is going to give you a bump you have to put your hands up. Gronk's in a no win situation right now.

If they weren't singling him out and allowing defenders to mug him Gronk might actually be leading the league in yardage

Julio Jones- 1245
Antonio Brown- 1192
Hopkins- 1081
Beckham- 1005
Gronk- 931

That's pretty useful. He may not lead but he'd be very close. I argue it's not the OPI as much as him being mugged on a lot of plays 20-30 yards down field that affect that number even more. Re: Giants game.

Consistency is indeed the key. I don't care what the rule is but call it the same for everyone and call it the same every time so the players know what to expect.

"Level playing field" eh?

That Giants game non call is proof. It wasn't some hard to see holding or some DPI that could go either way. It was downright mugging by the Giants defenders on Gronk right out in the open for everyone to see. Glad Gronk is speaking up about it even if it is only one word.

im curious if the patriots have submitted any videos to the league about what they feel are ******** calls, see the two giant defenders mugging gronk down the field for a no call and yet gronk looks at a defender and its opi.
