SNF intro... maybe I'm old...

That 1980 MNF intro was good but I liked the 1979 MNF intro better (sadly, this clip does not have any Howard narration over "Heavy Action" but starts right with the theme):

And then there was the 1973 version :)

...but I miss Faith Hill.

Just sayin'... ;)

Dog goes woof, cat goes meow.
Bird goes tweet, and mouse goes squeak.
Cow goes moo. Frog goes croak, and the elephant goes toot.
Ducks say quack and fish go blub, and the seal goes OW OW OW.
But there's one sound that no one knows...

A few thoughts.

There's something wrong when a hot 47 year old woman (Faith Hill) is viewed as "too old." But, I'm not gonna win that argument with the suits at NBC when the coveted target demographic is 25--34.

Carrie Underwood. Attractive? Yeah. The best American Idol has to offer. But the whole lame opening now? Meh! The silly flirting with the "big dumb players." The whole thing is time to get the chips before the game starts.

I'm way out of the target demographic, but I'd take Howard Cosell's breathless openings over what we have today. And, while it's an argument I'm not gonna win...I'd take Faith Hill over Underwood even if she is "ancient" by twenty-something standards.

Hank + Aerosmith = Ready for some football! Yes, In know it's from Monday Night Football - the only other time outside of Sunday afternoon that football should be played (not a fan of TNF or SNF). This was the night to showcase the best matchups.

I remember that one, really one of the best.

Too bad that the NFL* politics resulted in Hank Williams leaving the MNF gig.

I HATE the stupid, flashy pregame opening 'show'. Ditch the pop star and awkward crap music and just put together a good hype/history film of the two teams playing. NFL films quality intro. Maybe a mix of historic plays from each team as well as key plays from the season, etc.

I tune in to watch FOOTBALL, not ****ty pop music. Maybe I'm drank too much of BB koolaid, but I don't want any distractions. No pregrame or halftime music. No stupid side stories. Football.

The only difference between 1980 and 2015 is that in 1980 I didn't have the use of a DVR so I could fast forward to the start of the game. It also would have been great to able to use that same tactic with Howard Cosell, the grandfather of useless MNF babble.

I agree to me it's just another blonde country bimbo. I miss intros like this.

Loved that opening tune. As a kid I used to play football with a bunch of neighborhood kids in an nearby field. Anytime someone made a big play or incredible catch we would all yell , "That's the Monday Nighter" and then start chanting that MNF tune. Dun Nuh Dun Nuh Dun Nuh...:D

Good times.

Pats/Jets 1976 MNF opening:

My Favorite opening theme:

Dog goes woof, cat goes meow.
Bird goes tweet, and mouse goes squeak.
Cow goes moo. Frog goes croak, and the elephant goes toot.
Ducks say quack and fish go blub, and the seal goes OW OW OW.
But there's one sound that no one knows...
But what does the Fox say?

My Favorite opening theme:

"Heavy Action" was never actually the theme. It was the music used in the background when Cosell would narrate the opening monologue about the teams playing. Then he'd finish his narration and the actual MNF theme would come on.

Funny how my memory fades over the years. I know you are correct but for some reason it's the only theme I remember from back then. :)

I think their is a 12 step program that could help you. :D

I'm considering entering a Pats Fan rehab center myself.
