They are arrogant is all. Bottom line is Goodell has got to go. It won't happen by people posting complaints on these boards. I have said this before, the only thing that will move the owners to take action is if they feel Goodell has become too much of a liability. He's already taken a hit by getting his ass whooped by Brady. The concussion story is coming next. If the NE fans which is a huge NFL market start boycotting the NFL corporate sponsors this will be the straw that breaks Goodell's back imo. Others will join like NO fans. Just the threat alone will be a story and raise some concerns amongst the owners.

Maybe a subject for another post and I don't know if this has been brought up here but can anybody explain how the NYFL allows its broadcasts to be sponsored by all of these fantasy leagues? This is nothing but gambling, no? Shouldn't they distance themselves as far away as possible?

Just a guess but they probably rationalize it to themselves the same way states who don't/didn't allow casino gambling rationalize lotteries (minus the part about the money going to fund education, etc.)

And let's remember something: none of this was an issue until Goodell became the commissioner.

The big question will be if anyone actually trusts Goodell in the future, given that we know he flat-out lied in his appeal ruling.

The owners don't want to do the right thing until they can trade it to the players in a labor negotiation to get something else in return.

Not sure the process was a problem before Goodell. Goodell is abusing the process. I'm sure the players would be fine with it as long as Goodell was not the commissioner.

I don't know why the management in NFL is so conservative. I mean, what do they have to lose by making concessions to the unions and the players?

In no other sport will you find this kind of dysfunction... not in baseball, not in basketball, and not in hockey.

Most novice/bad gamblers will play a bad hand to the end instead of folding to live another day. It's just what imbeciles do. You can't fix stupid.

The NFL seems to go into collective bargaining with the mindset that it is all one big zero-sum game and that they have to treat every ask from the NFLPA as a potential bargaining chip even when it is in the shared best interests of the owners and players to address issues. So we get a situation where nobody from the NFL or the NFLPA really thinks the NFL's best interest is repeatedly spending a lot of money and going to court to try to prevent their biggest stars from playing the sport, but the billionaire owners are willing to spite themselves by maintaining the rotten status quo until the NFLPA is willing to fork over a slightly larger share of the pie to make the issue go away. What a petty and nihilistic bargaining strategy.

Re: what they have to lose, I think it's as simple as concessions to the players. They know Goodell can't stay unilaterally in charge of player discipline. We know, they know, everyone knows. But they're going to make the NFLPA give something up in negotiations to get that. Or they'll try to, anyway. The NFLPA might tell them to go pound sand, but I doubt it since the NFLPA is always operating from a distinct disadvantage on this stuff.

It won't be long before Goodell screws up again. The man is a disaster waiting to happen.
I believe he could have 5 Brady-like losses in 5 years and he'd still have a vast majority of ownership support. Not going anywhere and his power will not be diminished. The NFL owners love power and control over the masses almost as much as they love money. I've always thought that the antebellum plantation owner mentality was a comparison to NFL owners which was an extreme exaggeration of the current arrangement. I know it's still an exaggeration, but I believe it's much less extreme than I previously thought. Just my opinion.

The NFL is scrambling now, they are on the run. Making statements, changing and denying them the next day.

Irsay needs a fix, but he's afraid of cameramen in the bushes.

Stay tuned.

ESPN continues to lose subscribers en masse and is mortgaged to the hilt to oppressive media contracts.

Stay tuned.

Owners go to sleep listening to negotiating tapes that repeat over and over again..."Must.....extract.....pounds ......of....flesh....."
No such thing as "gestures of goodwill" or "for the good of the game" or "it's the right thing to do."
Instead....."It's mine until you force me to give it to you"

It is so stupid. What is the point of having a disciplinary system in place that has been deemed on 5 prominent occasions in court to be so unfair as to have the decision vacated?

I truly despise the owners for having such ridiculous opposition to instituting a system with fair, impartial arbitration. Why are they afraid of fairness???
