Giants' co-owner John Mara has respectfully declined to participate in settlement discussions between Tom Brady and NFL, per @mortreport.

I guess Kraft asked Mara to help Brady convince the League to settle, but instead of bringing this nonsense to an end, Mara is letting the League have its way with Brady.

smh, I can't wait for the Pats to lay the smackdown on his team this season

Sorry the integrity of the game is an inconvience for him that he just wants pushed out if the way right or wrong.

Yeah I read this as he won't life a finger to clean up the NFL's mess.

Interesting. Either he can't be bothered or doesn't want his name attached to the SS Goodell in 50ft swells.

The league and Mara may not want to admit that Arbitrator Goodell lets himself be influenced by what other teams want.

Mort said on ESPN that it was Judge Berman who asked. And Mara declined b/c the cowboys play the Pats week 4, and it would be a competitive advantage b/c the Cowboys play in the same division.

I wouldn't expect him to. It's not his mess. What the story tells me is Kraft sees Mara as on his side.

I mean, it's this.

But again, why would he even be called? That's why they pay the commissioner.

So apparently he doesn't want this to be over badly enough to throw his own hat into the ring. Too bad, I think his participation would've benefited Brady.

Best possible reading: he knows the LO is screwed, doesn't want his name attached, doesn't want to extend any kind of lifeline to the commissioner.

Worst possible reading: he agrees with Goodell and/or is completely deferential to his judgment.

Which is why he doesn't want to be involved. There are owners who want TB on a spit.

...and Goody public image is sinking faster than Jared from Subway's life.

My suggestion to Mara would be to stay away as well.

o_O I don't get it...what does that have to do with settlement talks?

If Mara were somehow able to force a lesser suspension, he could make it so Brady plays against Dallas. As it stands right now, he wouldn't.

Judge Berman asked Mara to help mediate settlement talks, b/c Mara is head of the NFL labour board or Council(I can't remember that exact wording). As it stands now the Cowboys will not face Brady, so if Mara was to reduce the suspension it could be inferred that he did it to help the Pats beat the Cowboys.

EDIT. Just looked it up, Mara is chairman of the NFL Management Council. Which is the main NFL labour committee.

He'd be crazy to insert himself into this. whatever happens in court [assuming a favorable ruling for Brady in the current mess] the real business will be behind the scenes, among owners and that should be discrete.

If Mara sided with Brady he could be accused of wanting TB to play against the CBoys. A lose for Dallas is a benefit to the Giants - conflict of interest.

Because if he gets a settlement with a reduced suspension, Brady plays against the Cowboys, advantage Giants. It's actually a good point by him.
