For #Chargers and QB Philip Rivers, it’s a 4-year extension worth approximately $84M in new money. $65M guaranteed, source said.

Philip Rivers was already under contract for almost $16M in 2015. Add in roughly $84M over 4 years and it’s about 5 years, $100M. #Chargers

So now, Philip Rivers has his extension, Ben Roethlisberger has his, and they have framed numbers for Eli Manning and Giants to do deal.

And coming soon to an extortion near you, Andrew Luck.

When you think about it, it's pretty outrageous that QBs who haven't even won a ring are making more $$$ than a 4x Super Bowl champ like Brady.

Geesh, we Pats fans must be lucky

Brady's making $14 million, salary ($8million) and bonus ($6million), this year, after winning 4 Super Bowls.

In 2001, Drew Bledsoe signed a contract which paid him $11.5 million, salary ($3.5million) and bonus ($8million).

That was 14 years ago.

Eli "INT" Manning getting that $$ is LOL

that is a whole lot of money to a guy that has proven he can't will the team to a title on his own.

But if the Chargers don't pay Rivers..who do they go with? when you have a QB like him (or say the top 10 Qbs in the NFL) you are pretty much forced to pay the $$. He is good enough to win a SB..i think we can all agree mostly on his skill set..but is he good enough to put it all together in 1 season or at the right time?

Even if Eli has 2 SBs somehow to his name both of which were pretty much gifts...MUCH rather pay Rivers as he has the best team..and best chance to get back there before manning face

He has done an awful lot with very little out there, and his toughness is off the charts. That owner is brutally inept. He had Norval Turner as a head coach for 6 years for god's sake.

When I said "QBs without rings," I was referring to Andrew Luck.... but yeah, I have a ton of respect for Rivers. I always felt he was underrated...

But do I think he's worth $100 mil over the next 5 years? Ummm.....dunno.....I'll have to think hard about that. Seems like a lotta cash to give to someone who hasn't even taken his team to the Super Bowl

And so it turns out Eli was right to shoot his way out of San Diego before even arriving there in the first place.

The NY Giants turned out to be a better-run franchise with a much more competent coach..... But I'm not sure if any of that factored into Eli's decision.

My guess is, he thought New York was the more lucrative market -- and simply wanted to rake in the extra $$$
