Tim Teb... oh wait, he wasn't invited.

I'm rooting for Michael Sam. The weird thing about Sam is that right before the combine he was a 1st or 2nd round pick. His combine performance wasn't great, but most still had him as a mid-rounder, many as a 3rd rounder. Then he falls to the end of the 7th round and was probably only taken by fiat from Jeff Fisher (good for him) and is out of football within a year.

Adam Carriker is an interesting name. Former #13 overall. If his knee checks out, hmmm.......6-6 315

He looked good in Washington's 3-4 before he got hurt. He always looked better as an end of the line player but the Rams kinda screwed him up and forced him inside. He could be a good reclamation project.

Yeah it's unfathomable that we fans and the media overrate a particular player.

Sure, but NFL executives told Sports Illustrated anonymously that he would fall in the draft because he came out, so it's not like there's not evidence this went on.

He's "only" 30 but less wear and tear than his age with basically the last 3 years out (played 2 games in 2012), but was still on the 'Skins roster until march of last year. If he's kept himself in good shape, which as of 9 months ago he was and like I said, his knee checks out, might be worth it.

Sam was never a first or second round pick he had 4-5 grade pre combine and dropped to 6-7 after a horrible showing at the combine and his pro day.

you can try and cloak yourself in that but the league is always trying to get pass rushers and thats what Sam does best, if you believe hes so terrible that despite his great performance in college and preseason that he was unworthy of a single workout then there probably isnt a way I can change your mind. I'm not sure if he is good enough to be on a 53 man roster, but I do know that he was undersized before he came out and that didnt stop scouts from projecting him as a 4th or 5th round guy. somehow after he's come out these concerns are too massive for him to even get
Like it or not, agree with it or don't Michael Sam much like Tebow has a following of media and fans that can be viewed as a distraction or at the very least an annoyance. So when you are an undersized and non athletic DE who is a liability in the run game there are many players that can do what you do for a team without the added previously stated associations.

Michael Sam made a conscious decision to put his personal life on the map, I know I do not go to work and announce that I am straight and my gay friends don't send out mass emails notifying their co-workers of their sexual preference. Sam could have lived his life and just kept his personal life just that personal, **** if Aaron Hernandez can literally "dance" around smoking weed on sidewalks carrying guns and killing people I'm sure Michael Sam could have had all the homosexual relations he wanted without it being a public story.

The reality is when every other player was prepping for the combine, pro days, private workouts, etc. Sam was doing national interviews and building his notoriety. That shows to me that football was secondary to him being the Elton John of the NFL. All coaches want players that put football first, before their contracts, before their personal lives, etc. Sam has not done that so I'm not surprised he is without a team.

I am not an evaluator. But I cannot believe that 32 teams would pass on Sam if he was an excellent football player. Maybe there are four teams that would take him as an "end of the roster 51-53 player" but choose to avoid the media distraction because he is only an end of roster guy.

If Sam could produce exactly what Chandler Jones can offer on the field, he'd be on a team.

dude just call yourself a bigot and be done with it, stop trying to act like your something else or justify it as a "distraction". You don't want him to keep his personal life to himself you want him to lie, when a reporter asks him if he was gay you want him to say "no", there are players who are gay and they deserve the right to be honest because quite frankly being gay isn't that big of a deal, but all these players just saw Sam get blackballed because of his sexuality. Like it or not players have personal lives and they have every right to enjoy them, but people like you think its a bigger distraction that Sam is dating man than someone like Greg hardy beats his wife and then paid her off to get the charges dropped. If this was 1959 I think you would be one of the people trying to justify why your team ignored talented black players because having one would be a "distraction".

A bigot? One of my best friends for over a decade is gay and I have been to gay bars with him and had a great time so hop of your soap box and move on because you couldn't be any further off if you tried.

Greg Hardy is one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL and great against the run. I wouldn't sign him because he is a **** show but I can see why teams would.

Did anyone ask Edelman about the girl who blew up his spot on Tinder? Not one media outlet covered it, because he didn't broadcast it. I don't want him to lie, I want him to play football, I don't give a **** what he does in his free time and the fact he put that in the forefront makes me question his priorities and what his true motivation for playing football is.

Every time this guy has been in front of a mic he has said that football is his #1 priority and yet all anyone has asked him is what its like being a gay football player, i fail to see how that's his fault. With all the **** the NFL does I dont understand why its so hard for people to believe that Sam is getting blackballed.

"I have ____ friends" is like the oldest, dumbest excuse. Don't use it, you sound ridiculous.

Second, Tom Brady hits everyone over the head with how straight he is every time he posts a picture of himself and Gisele together on Facebook. This doesn't seem to bother you. If Sam had "kept quiet" as you said, and then posted on social media about he and his husband's wedding, there would have been a massive uproar and he still would have been dragged into the limelight. In other words, other than by lying and staying in the closet (which is very bad), he could naught have but made it political. So he made a calculated choice to come out publicly prior to the draft and seems to have been punished for it.

Where was he seen as a first or second round player? I never saw a mock that had him there. His combine was horrible, which dropped him even more. I absolutely think that he dropped a bit in the draft for various non-football reasons. But the drop wasn't as huge as some made it out to be.

It's not an excuse, it's an actuality and before someone refers to someone as bigot they should have some basic understanding of who the person is and not just lob accusations because they don't agree with a view point.

I could give 2 ****s if Sam is gay but the reality is that his decision to be the poster boy for gay football players has led to a large media following that he is not good enough on the field to overcome. The smart thing would have been to say nothing at all and establish an NFL career and then make the announcement. Sam wanted to be recognized as the first gay football player, and that carried this possibility and he knew that and still made a conscious decision to do it. There is nothing bigotry about that, I'm sure Tebow would be on a roster if he didn't make himself the poster boy of the catholic religion. When you are a JAG at best and only have a 1-2% chance at making a NFL roster things like the amount of media attention you bring make a big difference, if Sam was as talented as Clowney he would be on a roster, but he is not so there are other players who can do what he does without the added media and public attention.

The Sam thing is very interesting This is all about the cult of personality becoming bigger than the actual talent. When that happens, it becomes an unwanted ballache for the HC.

It is very much like Tebow. There are certainly worse QB's who have jobs in the NFL. But just imagine if Tebow becomes a number two somewhere. Every question will always be 'when is Tebow going to play?'. It wouldn't matter if their QB was good, they want Tebow.

Now let's say that Sam makes it to 53 on a roster. The Sam obsession will be 'when is he playing? Is he not playing because of homophobia?' That becomes the story.

Teams are willing to cope with a headache if the guy is good. If they guy is a JAG, then most will think, 'what's the point?'.

If he could get a team a Superbowl ring then he would have a job. I doubt he gets cut because they think he is going to attack the QB in the showers.

Having a gay friend does not make you not a bigot. Your comments do make you seem like one though.

How can you propose to know what the 'smart thing to do' is? Are you saying the smart thing to do was to hide who he is? I guess you feel he should have waited until after his career to get married? Or just hid that?
People like you who this matters to are not the people making personnel decisions in the NFL.
Also your viewpoint is against the labor laws of this country.

Sam wanted to be recognized as the first gay football player, and that carried this possibility and he knew that and still made a conscious decision to do it.
Did he tell you this? Perhaps he wanted to be himself and not lie about who he is and he thought people may be ready for that, after all, a lot have gay friends.....

There is nothing bigotry about that, I'm sure Tebow would be on a roster if he didn't make himself the poster boy of the catholic religion.
Tebow isn't Catholic.

Someday people will be able to be who they are and bigots like you will be laughed at for your intolerance.

Michael Sam ran a 5.10 forty that puts him amongst this illustrious company:

Can we stop talking about him now please.

Felix Jones put up a blazing 4,79 and 4,85 40 time. Michael Bush put up a 4,96 and 4,91. Holy hell these guys have aged quickly.
