The 2015 NFL Combine Thread

Delaire and Corey Crawford both very disappointing.

Henry Anderson is someone I've been watching for years. Thought he was going to become a stud, and he ended up having an injury plagued up and down career at Stanford. Josh Norris loves him. His 4.93 40 and 1.63 10-split were outstanding - much better than Arik Amstead's numbers.

They certainly were. Did you see Obdighizuwa's vertical? 39". I wonder if he ends up like Nick Perry. Very explosive but struggles changing direction.

He reportedly has a 39"+ VJ. If so, that will bring up some Jamie Collins comparisons.

I had anticipated this from Hunter, so it doesn't change my grade of him.

I don't know if you follow Joe Goodberry but he hates him. Says it's the worst tape he's watched. I don't agree, I like him, I just wish his anticipation of the snap was better.

Back in the 3-4 days, this board would have been all over Henry Anderson from Stanford.

I've been following Henry Anderson for years. Mackenzie Pantoja was a huge fan of his, and had a write up of him during his sophomore season which was lavish in its praise:
And then there’s Henry Anderson, the best old school 3-4 defensive end prospect I’ve ever seen. First of all, the job of the 3-4 end is one of the hardest in football. It’s less common in the NFL today, but they are often asked to be a two gap defensive linemen. That means that, in Anderson’s case, he’s asked to prevent successful running plays in both the B gap and the C gap. Controlling two gaps is hard. You need incredibly long arms and strength to make arm tackles on both sides of the linemen, as well as incredible instincts to see the running back moving in front of you. Another interesting aspect is that the 2 gap linemen shouldn’t be behind the line of scrimmage against the run. If Anderson, for example, penetrates the line through the C gap, the running back will simply run through the B gap, so TFL’s usually are an indicator of a guy who is not doing his job. Other than sacks, the only reason a 3-4 end should get a TFL is on certain run blitzes. It’s not a glamorous job (and that’s why Albert Haynesworth hated it), but it’s an important one. Anderson is so good that he actually gets TFL’s since he simply can push his tackle back behind the line of scrimmage and then begin to act like a normal two gap linemen. He follows his assignment because he does not shed his block but simply pushes the block behind the line of scrimmage so no matter what gap the running back chooses he’ll run right into an arm tackle. It’s pretty incredible. He has ideal length at 6’6, phenomenal strength (anecdotal evidence: with his stomach on the ground, Anderson grabbed Kenjon Barner’s jersey and wouldn’t let go. He simply laid on the field. Barner=Boat, Anderson=Anchor, and Barner fell to the ground), great discipline, good instincts, good fundamentals, everything you could ask for in a 3-4 end.

Josh Norris of Rotoworld is also a huge fan, and has Anderson ranked #18 on his pre-Combine board:
18. DL Henry Anderson, Stanford

NFL Comparison: Chris Canty

Where He Wins: He might play with high pad level, but Anderson has tremendous strength through his hands and couples it with great length to press and push his opponent backwards. Will work best as a 3-tech, but might give some teams looks as a 5-tech. That versatility will be nice for teams who use multiple fronts. He displayed a variety of moves in 1 on 1s.

Anderson is generally considered an "unathletic 5-tech", but if he shows positional versatility and continues to show better athleticism, then he's a huge value compared with someone like Arik Amstead.

That wouldn't surprise me. I love Diggy's combat skills, and his explosiveness is a plus, but I question his agility. That's where I love Danielle Hunter.

Hunter is slow to react and slow off the LOS, so he doesn't make a ton of splash plays. Some of that may improve with coaching. But he does everything else so well - he clogs the passing lanes, blocks passes, sets the edge, and is very good in space. I compared him months ago to something in-between Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins. I can live with his slow reaction time, especially if it keeps his value down and puts him in day 2.

Mario Edwards with a 4.79 40 and 1.72 10-split. Not bad. He's much lighter than I had expected, at 279#.

There are 20 DEs with a vert of 38.5" or better; four are former Patriots and one, Michael Johnson is someone we were very interested in. The three though are all FA signings rather than draft picks: Mark Anderson, Michael Burgess, Andre Carter an Adalius Thomas.

Problem with Hunter ( f thats a problem) is he is very simulary to Chandler Jones, but im still a big fan. A year Down the road he could be very good LDE. Could Fear Patriots could lack Pass rush from the side if Hunter and Jones - Have to come from the middle then, since he can set the egde.

Thanks for making me cry over my lost, but still favorite, defense.... :(

Yup. Fine with a second round grade on him. Would prefer him to bulk up as a DE though like Chandler Jones.

I like him long term as a LDE. But one who can play in space. He's also moved inside to DT for LSU. A less explosive Aldon Smith comes to mind as another comp (but apparently without the baggage).

I'm torn between Hunter and Diggy as LDE prospects. I like Hunter's length, and think he's better in space.

And then there's Max Valles, and Obum Gwacham ...

Right now I think there's a good chance that Dante Fowler, Randy Gregory, Vic Beasley, Shane Ray and Bud Dupree all go top 20, quite possibly top 15. And Eli Harold will appeal to some teams, too as a LEO type.

Beasley with a 41" vertical, per Josh Norris. Killing the Combine. It will be interesting to see how he and Shane Ray end up going relative to each other.

Tennessee-Chattanooga DE Davis Tull with a 42.5 vert, 11" broad. 6'2" and 246lbs though. Linebacker prospect?

Edwards with a 10' broad jump, too. Very athletic. Essentially the same numbers as Chandler Jones (4.77 40, 1.66 10-split, 10' BJ). Has to belong in the day 2 LDE conversation.

If you look at my Bob McGinn thread, they're talking about him as a potential first rounder.

I saw that. Too early to tell, though it wouldn't shock me. Compares well to Datone Jones.

Rakeem Nunez-Roches is a Southern Miss DT i noted a while ago. Had a 34" vert at 307lbs.
