Schefter: Has Heard Speculation Colts might have deflated the footballs

How does that information from the NFL prove that this isn't a rumor? You're kidding right?

Brady likes his balls at the lowest possible PSI, of course they will dip under due to weather change.

Still doesn't prove that the Pats illegally deflated any ball, so again my friend: It's a rumor and nothing more.

To the ignore list you go.

Neither I nor the NFL said the Patriots deflated the balls, just that the pressure was low. Only reporters and commentators have speculated that the Patriots may have deflated the balls. Clearly that's a rumor and no one has even come close to refuting that.

The facts are:

-The Colts leveled a complaint
-The balls WERE low in pressure
-The balls were re-inflated and played with
-The NFL is investigating

Are you denying those are the facts of the situation? It doesn't seem like you're sure what you're trying to say.

EDIT: I was wrong about one thing. I didn't think you had anywhere to go with your line of reasoning, but I didn't consider that instead of admitting you were wrong you could claim the NFL was lying! Masterstroke of denial! Kudos to you!

Fixed it.

Are you seriously this out of touch?

We're discussing the RUMOR that the Colts MAY HAVE deflated the one football, which is RUMORED to be the only ball that actually had significat deflation.

No one he is denying any of the points you're making. But all the "leaked information", to this point, is a RUMOR.

So either your not understanding the point of this thread or you're trolling.

Regardless of honesty how did this rumor or info get out to these wonderful journalists who feel the public should know the "truth"

I think Schefter & his girlfriend Mortensen did it.

Jd, you are really minimizing the irresponsibility of both the media and the league. Bob Kraft didn't come out to demand an apology over some innocent investigation, he came out swinging because the team, coach, and GOAT QB were seriously maligned and deliberately so. You are acting like they were just doing their jobs and sticking to facts when in truth it was one of the worst smear jobsI have ever seen. The patriots were tried and convicted in the court of public opinion because of leaked rumours and innuendo and in truth no exoneration or apology will ever undo the damage. This was a public lynching and the league and media were responsible.

Go back and read the thread. Bobsyouruncle claimed the Colts started the rumors. I asked 'what rumor?'. You responded with 'the whole story to this point is a rumor'. Which is incorrect. There is factual information that has been provided by the NFL, which is not a rumor.

Are you talking about Irsay tipping off Kravitz on the investigation? That isn't a rumor either, there IS an investigation.

Actually, the Colts deflating balls doesn't even qualify as a rumor. Just idle speculation by people with too much time on their hands.

The Patriots deflating the balls wasn't a rumor, either, again just speculating. No one made any claim that the Patriots did anything, they were just speculating and running with the speculations.

Totally agree, just saying our argument shouldn't be "My rumor is better than yours".
Rapaport could be totally full of crap, and it still means nothing was done wrong by the Pats. If we hitch the argument to his wagon, its only as good as how correct he was, where the real argument should be that the facts will prove nothing was done. (IMO already have because BB did an actual reenactment)

The only issue with that is that Ian Rapapport writes in NFL.com, the website owned and operated by the NFL. If it were false information, I would imagine they would have squashed it before publication or would have yanked it after publication. They did neither.

"No one made any claim that the Patriots did anything...". Are you kidding me? Look, in my opinion you've made some fair points along the way, but that statement is so false, so far over the top and ridiculous as to defy belief. If you really, believe that you're either delusional or been living in the Himalayas for 3 weeks. Or both. Come on.

at this point, anything that gets brought up is only done so to get a riser out of the reader or listener......that's the only real purpose of today's media

look at felger today trying to pick apart the 2013 draft and how even though the pats got the better end of it with collins instead of patterson that somehow that pats screwed up by not getting patterson too.......his point is perfect......if it is only to meant to get a riser from the local listener.

I believe the pats are absolved of any wrongdoing......beyond that, I don't care........having the colts be complicit does the pats no good.......it's not like if the colts lose a draft pick, that they'll gove it to the pats.

Really,good catch.

They didn't squash Mortensens rumor, and still haven't.
I'm not sure I have ever seen the NFL make a statement to support or refute the statements of reporters who write on their website.

Andy, they have no editorial control over an ESPN employee.

They DO have editorial control over the substance of an in-house report. And they wouldn't PUBLICLY squash a report by one of their writers - - that is counterproductive. They would SILENTLY kill it before it came out or take it off afterwards. They own the site.(Sort of like what ESPN did to their own John Brenkus' Sports Science edition that argued that the Patriots could be right about the footballs - - ESPN didn't publicly debate it - - they just erased it).

Do you honestly believe the NFL would allow a patently false report on its own investigation to remain up on the website it owns and controls?

Shmessy, I would be inclined to agree with you, but I have come to believe that the league allows their TV network, website and radio station to operate with a ridiculous amount of autonomy, sometimes nearly to the point of going rogue. The continued employment of Faulk, Warner, Sapp (until recently), et al shows me they neither muzzle their employees nor regulate what they say.

You are comparing apples to oranges there.
Do they have editorial control over Rapaport?
If you are saying what comes out of NFL owned entities is ensdorsed by the NFL, then I guess the Patriots are cheaters and liars since NFLN has said so, and no one has refuted that.

I understand you are trying to draw a distinction here, but you would have to show me a single time that the NFL came out and denied something an nfl.com reported said.
As far as I know the people involved in the investigation are not Rapaports editors.

If that were the case, why wouldn't they have leaked something refuting Mortensen days earlier?
How do you know who Rapaports editor is, and what his role in the league office is?
You are really just making something up (not something wildly out of whack, but something you do not know) and trying to turn it into a fact by acting incredulous.

Are you saying that Kravitz claim that the "NFL thinks the Patriots cheated" is a fact?

You are referencing OPINIONS espoused by their personnel, not reporting of data by their personnel.

That is a fundamental difference.
