Actually just saw a good bit on this on ESPN. They tested the balls, myth-buster style.

At 2lbs less PSI, a football weighs about one dollar bill more.

At 2%, a 50mph pass thrown 20 yards will arrive at the target later, by about 1 inch.

You can get a 1 millimeter better squeeze on it, or some such...

Their verdict: really ZERO advantage. Nothing.

Take it for what it's worth.

Disagree completely. I don't think the Patriots will sit still for anything more than a marginal fine and a warning. I think the reason they are staying quiet this time is that they are actually defending themselves and the NFL is going to have a real problem trying to go hard on them without really hard evidence, which they don't have.
As long as we don't get another "Explosive new details" thread showing up on this board like we did during the AH trial then there shouldn't be any. ;)

Oh, and ps. The number of people on TV who are condemning BB over this is really staggering. My understanding of these things is that the head coach wouldn't even be involved.

Staggering how many people, including ex-players and such, actually HATE this guy.

People, think about this.
Simply storing the balls at 82 degrees before the first test would be enough.
(Globe article)
No tampering, no deflation, no rule violation.

I just dont wanna hear about a player's behavior anymore when it comes to playing for this team.I am disgusted that I have to hear about deflated footballs the whole week rather then brady's legagy if he wins.I just dont like the silence from our side.

At this point they might have to win
the game or they will always be known as cheaters who never won post spygate.I really have a tough time accepting we went back to this crap against a team they have handled very well.
Not to pick on you, but when in God's name are people going to stop promoting the fallacy that a SB win will stop the cheater claims. NOTHING will, ever. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if should the Pats win this SB (which I think they will), a new cheating claim will be soon forthcoming. Count on it. It's never going away. In fact, the longer the winning continues, the more they'll be accused of cheating.

Yup just saw this too. But I think you mean it weighs a whole dollar bill less. And you're right it makes the ball travel slower.

Yeah it was sport science. They proved there was no competitive advantage. Then queue the SportCenter cast, "Ok there was no competitive advantage but what about the morality of the situation."

David Scott ‏@ESPNprDScott
Said @Sport_Science (Brenkus): "H2O can add as much as 1/2 ounce of weight...10x more of weight differential than disputed inflation issue."

I would love it if Bill got up and said "We use hot air to pump up the balls for the test knowing they will deflate after because we like it that way, its not against the rules and you can all pound sand if you don't like it. Change the rules or shut up. Now what are you doing about the Jets tampering?"

I think swagger is needed now.

This team is getting destroyed by the media over absolute overblown nonsense, questioning the integrity and past/present accomplishments of the Patriots, for the second time no less.

Sorry to say, but the Kraft's are absolutely gutless if they don't speak out against this by tomorrow.

Remember the thread where that Patradamous stated "I don't care. I can't stand it!!"?

I finally understand what that means now. I don't care, yet I can't stand this.

Felger and Mazz are insufferable, just getting that out of the way.

However, toward the end of their show today Beatle took two official replica balls, one overinflated (to 14 PSI) and one under inflated (to 11 PSI). Beatle said he was shocked when he first held them, he actually guessed incorrectly and couldn't tell a difference. Felger guessed incorrectly as well. Mazz, the asshat he is, guessed right and seemed sure of his answer ('I have very sensitive fingers'...db).

Anyway, none of these guys regularly handle balls (well, at least not footballs) but just adding a little to the 'how much difference is there' discussion.

Now we have national media poring over Brady's performance in cold weather games....and as we all know he's been pretty good in the cold...now this is ALL being questioned....posit for belichick & Brady - if true, is this really worth it to further tarnish an organization that perhaps has the largest black mark on it in the history of the NFL???? And what do we, the fans who live & die w this team hear from the club? Crickets, f#cking crickers

So stupid overblown nonsense. You still have to catch run block cover tackle and execute. The Patriots and Seahawks have done that better than any other team and That's why theyre in the Superbowl.

**** ESPN.

Can't wait for tomorrow's canned patriots response...."its a league matter. We're focused on Seattle"....

How about bill being held accountable if he knew? I like bill but this is about as dumb as it gets.Doesnt kraft deserve to protect the image of his franchise?BB has won alot of games but I am sick of the controversy that comes along.

What is dumb is the idea Belichick told someone to alter the balls.

Why would you not view this a GOOD news?

... I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell, "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!"
