Because now we'll have to hear speculation about it for two frakking weeks. It would have been nice to have gotten it resolved ASAP for good or bad.

So what you are saying is that when Mike Reiss reads that the league is looking into the matter, he has some type of inside information about the definition of 'the matter'?

I think it's pretty obvious the way he is saying it he has additional inside information, and as I'm sure you are seeing, so do others now.

Unless we are found guilty. Then it's not the worst possible outcome. It would be preferred. If we are innocent it would be best if it came out now. If we are guilty, the worst possible outcome would be for it to come out today.
True. By delaying this till the offseason - means it's not a simple issue which means thee might be something more to it. And if we end up winning - won't be legit until the ruling is made.

I agree. Not sure why the NFL would want this hanging over the Super Bowl. Unless they want to attract viewers with the idea that it's the Seahawks versus the big bad Patriots. Pete Carroll isn't such a good role model (see USC).

So now you feel we are guilty?
Please explain exactly how you think we pulled this off.

The more I read the more it seems that the referees are responsible for making sure the footballs are properly inflated, and the Patriots do not handle the balls. If the Patriots did something nefarious, it's the officials negligence in keeping control of the game balls. The rule:
I was under the impression that Peyton and Brady challenged the "new ball" rule and had it changed to worn in balls because nobody liked the stiffness of the new balls. I believe I heard Boomer Eisiason from the fan say it. BTW, I can't stand Mike Fatcesa. He's already accused, tried and hung us. Spewing his BS about "how come the Pats are the only team that other teams accuse of cheating?"...Uh, because it's a convenient way to explain their loss. And it will never stop

I didn't say we were or are feeling guilty or I feel we are guilty. Seems to me you are now just interested in twisting words. I said if it turns out that we are guilty, waiting until the offseason is not the worst possible outcome for us.

How hard could the investigation be:

Commissioner: Were there balls under inflated?

Investigator: don't know

Commissioner: go check

Investigator: no INVESTIGATION COMPLETE
Or
Yes

Commissioner: did the refs check the balls as per procedure?

Investigator: No- Okay, refs are culpable INVESTIGATION COMPLETE
Or
Yes: Okay, must have been weather. INVESTIGATION COMPLETE

This investigation could be over in about two hours if they really dragged it out. I suspect Commissioner incompetence.

The team can use this investigation as motivation

This is clearly the reason why the Pats won by 38 points. Jim Miller and Pat Kirwin were just destroying this conspiracy theory before. Kirwin said he doesn't give a crap about it and that's why they have all those balls. Says sometimes balls get deflated during low temperatures. Basically "who gives a ****?" was his reaction.

Surprisingly, mostly all top comments I've seen from neutral pages have been dismissive of the reports. As always, there are some "belicheat' trolls.

Look, if not the balls, it would've been something else. We should be happy it's something so ridiculous that self-righteous Mike Florio can actually make himself look even more stupid than usual.

Just remind yourself, imagine that you pooled together the dumbest of the dumbest bro's from your college who weren't even good at sports, add in former athletes that weren't good enough to do anything productive after their career, and mix in some people that weren't smart enough to make it in journalism (that's right, a field that's already a joke and for pretty much the dumbest people you've ever met) - and you have created sports media. Voila.

Get your popcorn out, all these knuckledragging idiots with cheap opinions all have microphones in front of their dumb mouths for 2 more weeks. Be above it, because it's really not that hard.

What? How would he have inside information? He is a reporter that is quoting a statement that was released and giving his OPINION on what the league considers 'the matter' to be.
I consider it to be the inspection of the footballs, which is a standard proceedure. When someone actually gives a credible statement that the league found something wrong with the footballs and suspect wrongdoing from the Patriots then THAT would THEN become 'the matter'.

But hey maybe Belichick paid the ball boy to poke holes in the football, and you can be happy in the end.

That would be too logical for Goodell

Thank you. So the original source was correct. Ok Andy, now what?

Reiss is not a credible source either?
I thought Polian was gone from Indy. Obviously not. He's still lurking around and whispering in Irsay's ear.

Send this to Francesa:

As both teams dealt with the freezing temperatures, Fox cameras showed sideline attendants using heaters to warm up game balls, which is against league rules. NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said Monday morning on NFL Network that officials warned both the Vikings and Panthers not to heat up the balls during Sunday's game, and would remind teams this week not to heat game balls.

"You can't do anything with the footballs in terms of any artificial, whether you're heating them up, whether it's a regular game ball or kicking ball, you can't do anything to the football," Blandino said. "So that was noticed during the game, both teams were made aware of it during the game and we will certainly remind the clubs as we get into more cold weather games that you can't do anything with the football in terms of heating them up with those sideline heaters."

The Carolina Panthers are dirty cheaters and need to lose money and draft picks!

So explain how you think we did it, since you seem to think that ludicrous result is a valid possiblity

I agree. Not sure why the NFL would want this hanging over the Super Bowl.

Yeah, that makes no sense. You'd think that even if NE did pull shenanigans, the NFL would want that known before the game so people can focus on the game instead of side issues. Don't understand why the wait.

...

Well, on second thought I can think of one reason for the wait. Most of all, the NFL wants a good game. The NFL might be feeling that if NE pulled shenanigans and that result was known before the game, public reaction might/would be such that the NFL might feel forced to suspend BB for the game (or something at that level) -- Goodell's not really in a position to stand firm in the face of a public/media/Congressional attack given the events of the year -- which would greatly reduce the chance of a good game. Therefore, better to wait to release the results after the game. Plus, it avoids making it look like a quickie lip service bag job.
