AFC Championship Game : Patriots vs. Colts -- Pre-Game Thread

I've heard quite a few Colts fans say they wanna win with a Vinatieri field goal -- the ultimate slap in the face to us. I'm getting fired up again.
Maybe they'll block another FG attempt. Would be sweet to swat an attempt from #4 away. Even better to return it for a TD as they've done twice already this year.

Definitely not even close to the same, I agree. But I'm going to assume that the person you were quoting was speaking in a more general sense, and in the most general sense there is something to be said for Jones being in and Stork being out making for a significant net change on the interior compared to week 11. I don't expect the Pats to win in the trenches as cleanly as they did earlier this season.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Kline isn't the guy starting in this game, and I also expect the Pats to be able to scheme past a good amount of it even if Kline does play, because so much of the run game is predicated on how poorly the Colts set the edge. Kline will still need to win his matchups a lot of the time, but there will also be a lot of cases where he isn't being asked to do all that much.
Beat me to it.

Late in the game, with a close score...I'd mess my pants...

We should remember that Kline also played most of the first Buffalo game and all of the first Jets game. Yes, he looked terrible against the Jets 2.0, and he is clearly a step down from the top group, but I think you can work around him. Jets 2.0 felt more to me like a preseason game, where you don't strategize much, leaving guys in lots of 1:1 situations to see what the can and can't do.

yes......and.....ummmmm....that's accurate because we all know Vince weighs 325

Someone quoted a listed weight that was 35 pounds less than his actual listed weight. Jones is clearly a lot heavier than 302 pounds, no matter what you're going by, so I'm not really sure what your point is.

clearly? how so?

this is what 6'2" 325 looks like

tell me another one

Vince looked like he had put on some more weight lately when I saw him in that Ravens game. He was getting pushed around a bit in the game.

No someone quoted a weight that he is listed at.

In exactly he same way that Wilfork is clearly heavier than 325. Look at the man. It's extremely rare for a defensive lineman to be 30+ pounds below his listed weight, and if Jones was you would be able to see it.

In any case, I still don't get your objection. Someone claimed that he was listed at 302 pounds. I pointed out that that was 35 pounds off of his actual listed weight. That's just a fact and is beyond dispute. Seems like you're just looking for an argument.

jerome bettis picked Colts over us. LET'S READY TO SB.

I think it's a mistake.........player weight even on nfl.com is very inaccurate.

now maybe if he had a bunch of rocks in his pockets

You quoted a weight that he was listed at, at the combine five years ago. His actual list weight is 337, according to both the NFL and the Colts website:

http://www.colts.com/team/roster/Arthur-Jones/b6185709-b6a3-4837-a401-608c19fe1a53

What you quoted as his list weight is 35 pounds off according to any official and/or current source. And with that said, I'm done with this debate. The facts are out, they've spoken for themselves, and I'm not going to engage in a pedantic quote war over this.

I quoted a weigh off a valid and current source. You should be done unless you want to argue who's source is better, which is silly because neither of us can honestly state how those listed weights are arrived at.
Also, we could use the experience of seeing Jones and Ngata play football for many years, and recognize that of course, Ngata is much bigger regardless of what you find listed on the internet.

It's not a mistake, these list weights aren't just made up out of thin air. Even when they're way off, there's a reason, and that reason is usually that they're very, very outdated. That's the case with Wilfork: he's listed at 323 because that's what he weighed at the combine over a decade ago, back when he was coming out of Miami as a big-bodied DT who was nevertheless adept at crashing into the backfield and making plays behind the line. He was also known for having issues with weight control even then. So, given that he was drafted onto a team that expected him to be a two-gapping NT, it made sense for him to gain weight. And gain weight he did, all while his combine weight stayed his 'official' weight.

Jones is a case where his weight has been updated over the past five years since the combine. That's part of the solution to the problem you're highlighting, not part of the problem itself.

you can believe what you want ..... he's not 337

I honestly believe the Pats are better prepared to play Sunday........the colts had a relatively easy path against 2 defective teams......I think the pats are on edge in a good way......public executions in the divisionals achieved nothing for the pats the past 2 years......the tough game against the ravens was the best thing that could happen

I think this game will be a close one. I'd say Patriots 34, Colts 27. I was confident we would kill the Ravens, but I had no clue our defense was gonna be complete garbage that game. If the D shows up again or not, either way, I believe Brady, playing like his usual self, is more than capable of outscoring Andrew "praying for" Luck. My only worry with this game is Brady. In AFC Championship games since 2006, he has been playing less than stellar, with the turnovers, he's averaging 2-3 interceptions a game. The defense definitely kept us in that 2007 game, Brady was playing like utter garbage and he had Moss on his side. Same thing with the 2011 game against the Ravens, where the defense and Raven's kicker saved Brady from screwing up our chances at competing at the Superbowl. If the real Brady shows up Sunday, I am not concerned because I know what the outcome is gonna be. If the other Brady shows up, then we are in for a long one. He probably still pull it off because that overrated Luck is sure to throw about two INTs and fumble the ball.
