You mentioned four QBs for some reason. I'm not really sure why, since my argument was about burning 1st round QBs.

Because you were talking about developing QBs over time. I posted the only non-1st round QBs for whom that had happened. They happen to be pretty much the only QBs who get a development 'opportunity' these days, but most don't develop.

Secondary point was, that given time, even seemingly mediocre QBs stayed in the league while #1 picks flamed out in a matter of years. You seem to be saying hardly anyone develops QBs because hardly anyone develops QBs. Don't know what your point was, other than that. So many drafted and thrown in, some are successful, at least so far.

But your point was not valid, because it completely ignores history and reality. Hell, just go back and start from 1981.

As far as Brady goes, he was the third string QB behind Bledsoe and Huard coming out of camp in 2001. It was a decision due to circumstances that BB decided to promote him from 3rd (maybe 4th) to 1st.

You remarked that it was significant that Aaron Rodgers was a 1st round pick responding to my argument that many 1st round picks flamed out because they were thrown right in.

But Rodgers was hardly thrown right in and was a 1st round pick. So, you gave back an example of the positive side of my argument, for some odd reason.

I remarked on his being a first rounder because he didn't fit with the only other developmental QBs with a chance to start in the NFL in 2014. This isn't rocket science. Rodgers was riding the pine because Favre was in front of him. He wasn't riding the pine because it was thought that he wasn't ready and still needed developing.

Go back to 1981 and do what?

You don't know how well he would have done under pressure from the start, so why act like you do?

Look at your QBs.

Tell me all about the great bench sitters like Andre Ware, Rich Campbell and company.

Neither do you, and he's thus not an example for either side, if you want to play that game.

I really don't know what you're talking about.

Really? You don't know what I'm talking about when I note that a guy's not in position to start in 2014 because he's out of the league? Do you also not know what I'm talking about when I point out that he came into the league quite some time back while I've been discussing the current and recent situation, and that his development mostly occurred in a league other than the NFL?

Who said anything about starting in 2014. If you draft a quarterback, then start him, whether he's ready or not...

He's starting! If the team thought i could sell tickets, I'd be starting. I'm talking about how teams get the most out of QBs to have long, successful careers. Luck and Peyton had the stuff. The list of 1st rounders who failed is longer than my arm. All you have to do to start is have the coach hand your the ball.

Damn, I wrecked the training camp thread. Done...

It's interesting (when the mood grips you) to read the content of posters you have ignored as a quick reminder as to why you've ignored them. Use the ignore function. Your Patsfans experience will be far more pleasant.

I noticed that too they were also giving them away in the restaurants in Patriots place. I was given a ticket to it but it seemed if you wanted to get in it was easy to get a ticket.

Did you have to show ID to prove you lived in S. Walpole or Foxborough? Or were they handing them out to everyone?

I'm old enough to remember when the rule of thumb was five years to develop a starting quarterback. You would think, looking at all the 1st round draft choices who have crashed and burned over the last decade or so, that people would look to coaches like Belichick who have developed 7th round picks and UDFAs through patient and consistent coaching, while other teams threw first rounders to the wolves and wrecked them.

I don't think I have to mention all the 1st rounders wrecked by the instant hero mentality.

Garoppolo is a division 2 QB. They want him to hold a clipboard for a year and learn from Brady and Mallet. If they like him, I wouldn't be surprised if they pick up a vet next year to replace Mallet, so the kid can learn without pressure.

Is it just me, or should this stuff really be obvious in a way?

Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rivers, Kaepernick are just some QB's that spent a year + holding a clipboard.

And not for nothing, Cassel and Hoyer did also. They might not be elite, but they are both in the mix for starting jobs with their teams. I'm a believer in grooming QB's. They don't all have to be Manning's and Lucks drafted first overall and start from day 1.
