Patriots hosted visits Friday with Packers free-agent RB Ryan Grant and Redskins free-agent RB Tim Hightower, per league source

Thoughts?

Likely doing some homework in case they don't fill a rb spot during the draft. This is not dissimilar to when they signed Gerrard Warren right after the 2010 draft (if not during the draft).

Hightower would be a nice fit, good runner, good receiver and can block. Would provide good competition for the young guys.

I'd take Grant.

I wouldn't mind adding Ryan Grant. IMO, the team needs a bigger RB to backup/compete with Ridley. Grant has had proven success in the league.

As much as I like Faulk, I don't know that his skill set is all that different from Woodhead/Vereen.

FWIW, Grant's agent mentioned on Tuesday that Grant has been talking with an unnamed team and would probably be moving on from GB within a week.

Hightower's a better talent at this stage in their respective careers assuming he's healthy. He's a great blocker which is job number 1, a better pass catcher and I think runs harder than Grant who is clearly on the rapid decline. I think he'd be a great signing for the Pats on the cheap and actually give the Pats a RB that can be solid in all areas which has been rare.

both guys have had problems holding onto the ball, but I'm a fan of bringing either in on a cheap 1-year deal.

I would take either one if it means we don't draft another RB.

Agreed, but neither should be in ahead of vereen or ridley, committee rules

Tom Brady is by far the most important player on the roster and Hightower would be by far the best pass protector in one of the leagues most pass happy offenses. If they sign Hightower, I think he gets a lot of PT on passing downs at the very least. Don't forget, Hightower was the Redskins starting RB until he tore his ACL. He's a good veteran player.

I would rather them have confidence in Vareen and Ridley and just resign Faulk.

And if they dont have confidence in them then they should have spent some money on a better option or they should draft another option next week.

Typical. Not surprising at all.

They need a veteran RB to go with the 2 sophomores.

Joseph Addai - RB - Colts

Free agent Joseph Addai visited the Patriots, a source tells beat writer Shalise Manza Young.

I want the one who is the best inside the Ten yard line.

Every time I see Hightower touch the ball, he just looks like he should be an elite back. Put him on this offense, and I think he could be a homerun waiting to happen.

I also really like Hightower, he was solid in AZ in a pass heavy offense and was looking good in Washington last year until his injury.

Ryan Grant reminds me of Raymont Harris when we had him (for what, an offseason and a couple of preseason games?)...good player but clearly on his last legs.

Does the guy even have anything left in the tank? I guess we'll have to wait and see for the final cuts.
He seems to love the game, so it would be fitting to see him become a coach in some capacity for the team.

I will probably lose my most recent meal if the Pats sign Addai.
