Mainly because Rex had a masterful game plan to take away Brady's strengths and exploit the sh!t out of his only weakness--inability to scramble or throw on the run. Plus we refused to counter what they were doing on D until the clock-killing drive, which ironically did us in because of poor execution and nobody being on the same page at the most critical moment.
If Brady is going to continue being a statue back there--which he will (and no, his side-stepping a rush now and then doesn't count)--we HAVE to go to a run-first offense. Sounds counterintuitive when you have TFB, but the Giants and the Jets have now shown us that it is a fact.
There is in fact a "blueprint" for counteracting Brady, and difficult as it is to execute, there will always be some defenses that have the talent to pull it off.
I think that pretty much says it. I've been arguing these last couple of weeks, as have several other stalwart Brady supporters, that the Patriots have to add a premium RB right away if Brady is to be as effective as he can be over the next few seasons. I'm not talking BJGE or Woody, as solid as they are, but rather an RB that forces other teams to gameplan around them. It all starts with signing Mankins.
