Prediction re: McCourty

I saw 159 yards and 7 points that says you're mistaken, amigo.
If you can't see with your own eyes, that McC is superior, I don't know what to tell ya. ;)

It's way too early to say so.

I thought both had good games. Butler was really good in the first half, with a couple knockdowns and an interception.

In the second half, Palmer made some picture perfect throws that Ochocinco grabbed. I thought those were indefensible.

As for 159 yards, I don't think those were all on Butler. Remember, Ocho got a couple shovel passes in the backfield that were like screens, and he took them for decent yards.

EDIT: I looked at the PBP and Butler was responsible for 6 of Ocho's catches, 84 yards and one TD. One 25 yarder was on Meriweather as Butler passed off Ocho in the zone, 4 were short dump runs, and there was the 16 yarder charged to Chung and Wilhite.

McC is ahead of Butler right now hands down.

Its not that simple imho.
I think McCourty might get exposed for his inexperience a few times. However, McCourty at this stage already possesses skills that Butler does not.

While McCourty might already be our best press corner, and better in run support, idk who will be more consistent in coverage. Its hard to count out Butler; hes a tremendous athlete and has already shown some playmaking ability.

I'd agree with that, and add another caveat: Butler was matched up against an elite, top-10 WR in the NFL, and he acquitted himself pretty well. A whole lot of Ocho's production came in garbage time, and a lot of it wasn't on Butler. When the game was competitive, Ochocinco was nowhere to be found.

McCourty was matched up against a guy who, at this stage in his career, is merely an above-average possession receiver. McCourty did a hell of a job on him, but let's not pretend that Owens and 85 are at all comparable.

excellent points. 85 looked fast out there tonight, and has great chemistry with his career QB. Butler definitely faced a larger challenge than McCourty did tonight, and as the two face other receivers we can get a better idea about where they rank.

Bottom line is that we have a tremendous 1/2 in the making. The prospect of potentially having Bodden as a #3 corner makes me giddy.
