Marion Barber retires | ProFootballTalk

I'm pretty surprised. Seven years in the league. I figure he would've stuck somewhere as a backup this year.

Would love it if we gave him a call and convinced him to come out of retirement. He'd be a solid veteran addition to our backfield, and although he's run out of steam the last couple years, we also wouldn't need much out of him. I'd imagine that with his carries significantly limited, he could still be a short-yardage force.

He was an integral part of Tebowmania. His unthinkable out-of-bounds run at the end of regulation and ensuing fumble in FG territory of OT were the first plays that came to my mind.

I never knew he was just a 4th rounder. I always assumed he was a first-day pick. Great value. You know, unlike that other Golden Gopher who went 21st overall.

I think Barber would have been a good fit here,Mix him in off and on with Woodhead and Ridley and he could have probably had a 500+ Yard season

Hopefully it's a Robert Smith or Demarco Farr deal where he made is money, saved it and wants a good quality of life after the game.

There's only two conclusions for Patriots fans on rookies. They are either a bust or being fitted for their bust in Canton.

I imagine he's beat up. Could be a change of scenery helps, or he needs a year off, or he's done. These guys really take a beating.

All you Ricky Williams mockers, compare total carries at Miami to this guy and barber is as tough as they come. You can only ride these guys like mules for so long. So Ricky needed a trip and a few doobies, he still had a great career.
