Default 2008 Season Trivia

Trivia Time
Honor system here; no fair looking up the answer and posting it.

The team winning the Super Bowl is remembered each year for winning their last game of the season.

How many teams won their last game of the 2008 season?
Who were they?

Edit: that's probably way too difficult; how many can you name?

-Well I know that 32 teams played the last week with 16 winners (no ties Week 17) so that produces 16 winners.
-Now I have to try to think back to remember if any playoff teams who won and lost. I do remember the saints losing when Bree's was trying to get the record in Carolina who lost in the playoffs.
-All playoff teams but the Steelers lost their last game so we know who that includes.

So my best guess would be 6 teams won their last game which includes the Steelers winning the SB.

1) Houston upset Chicago forcing them out of the playoffs (Texans won last game)
2) Oakland upset Tampa which put them out of the playoffs (Oakland won)
3) Detroit went into GB looking for their first win I remember in Week 17 and they went 0-16 so I would say that (Green Bay won its final game)
4) SF ended the season on a winning streak under Mike S. but not sure who they beat in Week 17
5) Who can forget about US beating Buffalo in the hurricane.
6) Pittsburgh who won the SB

That is my best guess and breakdown without cheating......time to go see if I was right

Very good, because I wouldn't have got that many without looking. The Steelers was obvious, as should the Patriots be to anybody on a Pats fans site. I figured Green Bay would be one most people might get based on "who beat the winless Lions" in the last week. And after that I was thinking 'who eliminated playoff contenders' (Chicago and Tampa Bay) in the last weekend - Houston and Oakland. But that's all I would have got right. Good memory on the 49ers ending on a winning streak.

For anybody that's trying to guess the 7th and final NFL team that ended their season with a win, here's a couple of hints.

- The game involved two teams in which neither opening week starting QB made it through to the end of the season.

- The losing team hired an ex-Pat this off-season.

- The winning team was involved in an NFL oddity earlier in the season that had not happened since 2002.

It might have helped me a bit that I cheated without trying......I had the NFL network on and they were talking about the hiring of the Cable guy in Oakland and said how he won his final two games

Well, no takers on the last team from anyone else, so I'll wrap it up.
(The final team was KC)

Trivia Time

The Pats went through the season with several injuries to their Running Backs.

1. How many different players led the Pats in rushing at least one game in 2008?

2. Which player led the Pats in rushing the most times (games) in 2008?

And the answers are:

(1) Five different players led the Patriots in rushing in at least one game this season.

(2) Sammy Morris led the Pats in rushing eight times in 2008.

The others were Kevin Faulk (5 times), LaMont Jordan, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and Matt Cassel.

-1- Laurence Maroney, as noted earlier, was not the leading rusher in any Pats games in 2008. The closest he came was in week 1 against the Chiefs, when he had 51 yards while Morris had 53.

-2- LaMont Jordan's one time he led the team in rushing yardage was not against his ex-team, the Raiders, in week 15 when he ran for 97 yards. It was in week 2 when he ran for 62 gainst another ex-team, the Jets.

-3- Wes Welker needed just 8 more yards to be the Pats leading rusher in the week 3 loss to the Dolphins. Welker ran for 19 yards; Morris had 27.

-5- Sammy Morris' 63 yards vs SF in week 5 was the most by any Pats runner through mid-October.

-6- Kevin Faulk became the third Pat to lead the team in rushing yardage with 48 yards at San Diego.

-7- Benjarvus Green-Ellis ran for 65 yards against Denver, more yards than any other Pat had compiled in the first six weeks. Sammy Morris ran for more than twice that in the same game, with 138 yards.

-8- The Pats ran for only 98 yards against the Rams, led by Kevin Faulk with 60.

-9- Faulk's 60 yards led both teams in rushing against the Colts.

-10- BJGE became the 2nd Pat to run for 100 yards in '08, with 105 against the Bills.

-11- Matt Cassel led all Pats in rushing with 62 yards in the OT loss to the Jets.

-12- Kevin Faulk led the Pats in rushing with 53 yards while Cassel threw for 415 in the win over Miami.

-13- Faulk had 73 yards, including a long of 41 against the Steelers.

-14- Pats run for only 84 yards, led by Morris' 36 against Seattle.

-15- Morris' 117 yards at Oakland was the 3rd 100 yard game by a Pat.

-16- Morris led the team in rushing again with 88 against the Cardinals.

-17- Morris led the team in rushing for the 4th straight time with 85 against the Bills.
