Right now, I just hope they win the AL East. That's going to be difficult enough for them, the way they're playing.

They are certainly trying their absolute best to give it away to the Yankees. They have played mediocre at best since mid July and that's about the worst thing a baseball team could want going into October!

As long as they have Beckett, Ortiz, Manny, and Papelbon, they'll have a chance to do damage. Beckett is an ace who gives you a couple of W's a series. I think the AL playoffs are going to be terrific. All 4 teams that make it will be darn good. I think the 5th team, or the one that misses out, would beat any team in the NL.

They lose 3 of 4 and they are collapsing and suck? They still have one of the best records in baseball since the ASB, they still have the best overall record in baseball, no AL playoff team has scored more runs than Boston this month, and they have still posted a respectable team ERA of 4.56 in September.

Most importantly, Beckett and Schilling are pitching very well right now. If they manage to pitch the way they have been pitching recently, and the offense hits the way they have been hitting recently, they will have as good a chance as any other team.

I understand your worries. The Sox have been giving up their share of runs lately, and really are close to losing the east. If Tampabay had a bullpen they would have been swept in that series, the Yanks took 2 of 3 in that series, and last night got shut down by Justin Mcgowan. The Sox played better baseball when they had a comfortable lead. Now that they are hearing the Yanks foot steps, it's putting a lot of pressure on them. You have to wonder how things would be if the Yanks didn't have that awful start to the season. I still think it's to early to panic. They are still the team to beat, but definitley picked a bad time to slump. Bucholz will start tommorrow in Toronto so maybe he will be the guy to step up. You never know.

I thought maybe it was going to take Gagne some time to get it together, but we are way past that stage right now. He is just terrible, and noone is at fault but the Sox. Thats what happens when you put to many chickens in the coupe, and try to bring in a closer to fit in a different role. They didn't need Gagne, they went out and got him to say" look what we got". The Sox are just going to have to swallow the pill, realize they made a mistake. and never have him pitch again. The only time they should use him is if they are losing bad or winning by 5 or more runs where they know he can't mess it up. Gagne single handedly went into Boston and screwed up the chemistry of a good bullpen.
