Personally, I think Lester gets a new deal a year or two before he hits FA.

Lackey has medical protection in his contract. If his elbow bothers him or if he undergoes Tommy John surgery, the Red Sox get a sixth year out of him at league minimum ($400,000). Would've been nice if they did the same with Beckett's contract. I'm going to agree with you on the whole risk part (it only takes one pitch to blow out an arm).. but some added protection in the contract wouldn't hurt.

Need some pop though.. maybe Lars Anderson will be ready sooner rather than later.. but think that the Adrian Gonsalves trade is a done deal as there maybe a wink and a nod between Hoyer and Theo, and are waiting for the correct timing...

I really don't have a lot of faith in Anderson. He couldn't prove himself against AA pitching and struggles a whole lot against offspeed stuff. He also went a whopping 0-18 in spring training. His groundball rate (53% I believe) is also too high to ever hit 30+ homeruns. Casey Kotchman was predicted to hit 30 homeruns at ease by Baseball America, his high groundball rate put an end to those extreme projections. At this point I'd be more excited in Anthony Rizzo. If Lars or Rizzo don't work out, we could always sign Adrian in 2012 and not give anything up for him.
