Hey with our Reputation as demolishing trade partners,
Teams played hardball with us.

We tried to trade out of Pick 10, but got no suitable offers

The first 3rd rounder (which I believe was a 4th last year) netted us less than a optimum price, but we still clearly gained value.

I see us trading away 3-4 JAGs to us for conditional picks in 2009.

And we will probably get Seau, Maybe LAW, and maybe even Colvin...

Could be the BEST TEAM EVER!!!

Any team's ability to trade up or down has nothing to do with their reputation, and everything to do with how badly they want to move in or out of a spot.

As has been discussed on other threads, the fact that we had to throw in a 5th round pick (25 points) to make the trade back from #7 to #10 work isn't that surprisng. Ellis was the only player of value for a very few teams at that point - and the extra $4 million needed to sign #7 compared to #10 was MUCH more of a factor than the Patriots "reputation"

The bottom line is that teams are much less concerned about whether others think they got "taken" by the Patriots. If there's a player they want bad enough they'll do what it takes to make the deal work - if there's less incentive then the other team needs to sweeten the deal.

I think teams go based on the chart and stick to it so I don't think they shy away from the pats as a trading partner. also i don't see any team giving us picks for JAGS.

I think most teams now use the same type of system of draft boards and draft for need@value rather than BPA. There is nothing wrong in "losing" in a trade if you get what you want out of it. Its when you target a guy like Baltimore did their QB Flacco, if he turns out to be a bust THEN they will say that trade had really bad value.
With BP, Romeo and now ATL all doing things similarly, let the games begin!

A couple years ago we traded away 4 Just Another Guys for low conditional picks the following year.

Possibly we could have a spare QB, DBs and LBs which could net a conditional pick in 2009.

Right.
Like Mr.Bigglesworth, my first thought was No Way.
But we've seen this many a summer.
The key is "conditional". Do our JAGs make their team? How much do they play?

Not many conditions get fulfilled.
So the "buyer" risks nothing ... yet gets ahead of other clubs that might slightly
outbid them for a "cuttee's" services.

The Patriots actually had another solid offer for their pick at 10th overall (after trading with the Saints), but they decided to keep the pick, and select Mayo. I believe the trade offer would have put them behind at least one of the other teams interested in selecting Mayo, which is probably the main reason they didn't pull the trigger.

I do not think so . Take SF pick for example , they got joe staley who has started at RT from day 1 and is being projected to take over LT when their LT retired in a year or 2.

SF side they got a cheap player who started day 1 and by the time signs his second contract he will be making the transtion over to LT .ALl the tackles this year were off the board by 19th pick and even then they have no idea if they would have gotten a top 2 LT in the draft.Their is some questions on ryan clady[2nr Tackle 08 draft] but non on joe stanley .He was a legit tackle and SF got him with better value and between them a better player.

If you saw Patriots all access last night the Chiefs called the Patriots and offered up their first round pick #5 overall. Obviously we will never know what they wanted for it but they did offer it up.
