What?

The full version of that quote:
"With the probable free-agent departure of No. 1 cornerback Asante Samuel this spring, the Patriots will need a cover man. Jenkins is considered the cleanest name in a cornerback crop that lacks depth and impact potential."

I completely disagree with the part in bold. From what I've seen there IS some depth at CB in this class, and I think a number of them could develop into good to very good CB's.

Also, Jenkins is hardly "clean".

After Sedrick Ellis's jaw dropping, dominating practices this week, he won't get past the Pats at #7.

Right now, I bet the Pats are targeting 1 of 3 guys:

Sedrick Ellis, Kenny Phillips and Talib

Do not put it past BB to take the highest valued player regardless of need and that player would be Ellis, I know we have to watch him this Saturday to see if he can back up these dominating maulings that he has been putting on OLs, but if he does, look for BB to steal this kid and pair him up next to Big Vince and play a 4-3 next year. It would be the best D-line in football for the next 6 years assuming they re-ink VW. Plus that would also lesson the blow of losing Tedy and/or Jr and we could go Rosie (restructed), AT and Vrabes. That my friends is a dominating front 7. This also allows these 3LBs to play at their most effective spots. AT is a much better player in the interior.

At the very least, if Ellis keeps this up, he sneaks up into top 5 and pushes a possible Jake Long down to us. It's a win/win for the Pats with each OL rag-dolling that we see out of Elllis, keep up the good work Sedrick.

Ellis has made himself a lot of money this week. Radio talk show guys on the west coast have been saying all year that they think Ellis is the best DT in the country.
He is quick, almost explosive, uses his hands well and is fairly strong. He has good balance and eats up opposing blockers when one on one with them.

I have Miami taking C Long if they keep the pick.
I have St. Louis taking Dorsey at #2.
If Atlanta gets the third pick, they are taking a QB.
If Oakland gets the fourth pick, they have to give Ellis some serious consideration over McFadden. If Oakland picks Ellis, then
KC jumps on J Long and
McFadden falls in our lap. Quick BB pick up the phone, that's Jerry Jones calling.

Two quick questions: (A) who do the JEST take? (B) How would you see the trade working? [Who would you see the Pats taking?]

How do you be "almost explosive"? You're either an explosive player or you're not. That's like saying he's "almost good." :P I don't think you were trying to imply that.

First of all, BB has used the 3-4 since his days with the Giants. Secondly, why would the addition of Ellis make him switch to the 4-3, when he could easily pair Seymour with Wilfork, and have Warren and Green at the ends? There are reasons why he'll continue to play both -- it's called gameplanning.

BTW, your point is well taken, BB will draft for VALUE -- which is not necessarily the greatest need.

I agree. And if we would only realize that of our top 3 roster CBs, two were found in rounds 3 and 4, while our third CB was undrafted.

The DB position is kind of a "pet position" for BB. He's coached it, and knows exactly what skills are required to play the position. He's even signed guys off the street to play in sub packages, provided they had enough ball skills to play a role in his D.

Every CB in this draft has flaws (actually, every prospect). So there's no need to gamble on one at #7, when BB is capable of finding a gem later on who has starter potential (according to BB).

Minor correction, the Broncos were the first team BB was involved with that used the 3-4. He then moved to the Giants to coach under Parcells. For those who don't remember, that Broncos defense was known as the "Orange Crush".
