Default Broncos trying to get up to number two?

PFT reporting this morning that Denver has tried to pull off a trade with Detoit to move up to the number two slot.

PFT theory is that Denver is after Joe Thomas, or possibly Calvin Johnson. (Although they are already loaded at receiver)

My theory: Denver knows that San Diego has its number for the foreseeable future and Shanahan is desperate to propel them towards parity in 2007.

Al Wilson reported to be an element of mooted trade. Denver needs to make up 1800 points on the draft chart to get there.

According to a Detroit weblog, there are believed to be several different targets for that #2 pick, from Calvin Johnson to JaMarcus Russell to Adrian Peterson to Joe Thomas.

The Lions would like to stockpile picks. But word is, they're also very interested in DE Gaines Adams, whom they could still get, depending on how far down they trade.

Peterson would be a waste of a pick at two. But the Lions probably need to stay put to pick up any of the others except maybe Gaines Adams, who might be available at 5-10?

He sure as hell won't be there at the Broncos pick.

If Millen was truly interested in building the long term future of his team, he ought to stay where he is and take Joe Thomas, and then perhaps look at Drew Stanton a little later in the day.

With Jay Cutler on board you would imagine that any move up to the #2 spot that the Broncos make would be for Calvin J. Is there anyone else that they would have to move to #2 to get?

CJ on one side, Walker on the other, Stokely/Marshall/Smith in the slot, Graham as a blocking tight end? Add in their always strong running game and it doesn't seem like a bad offensive formation does it?

Every year there's some big Detroit rumor that has them moving down. Twice it's been the Pats who have been the trading partner. BB/SP went as far as to make a public statement one year that they had never talk to Detroit about moving up and they had no plans to do so. It takes a lot to get BB/SP to make a public statement but apparently Detroit trying to drive up the price with bogus rumors was enough.

I don't buy Denver moving up to #2.

There's only two conclusions for Patriots fans on rookies. They are either a bust or being fitted for their bust in Canton.

It has been suggested on a Bronco site that Shanahan rejected a trade with Detroit for the number 2 pick that had Al Wilson, #21, #53 and a 2008 #1 going to Detroit. I haven't checked, but that assigned roughly #10 value to Al Wilson.

CJ or Joe Thomas would have been acceptable picks there for the Broncos, but I think that Denver would have traded down in the top 10 to add later picks and pick from a host of talented players (Adams, Branch, Anderson, Thomas, Landry, Okoye, Willis).

NYG bloggers are suggesting that the deal is in place to send Al Wilson and the #21 pick to the Giants for Justin Tuck, the #20 pick and maybe a 4th.

These two trades do not seem close to valuing Al Wilson the same, so somebody's fibbing.
