re: Bedard: Aqib Talib trade signals change in Patriots philosophy
Is Bedard still pondering where BB keeps his rings??
He is what he is a mercenary sports scribe....

Mentioned this is the other thread about this guy. I think it's simple--absent an act completely disqualifying (eg, rape, murder) you judge guys by how they behave when they're ON YOUR TEAM. Bedard will have a point if this guy, or anyone, is allowed to run wild when he's here. Until then, no.
(And I'm still out of power. Grrrrrrrrr................)

I've described Bedard as hit or miss. That's fine, IMO, as most reporters fall in that category. The thing about Bedard is that he doubles down hard, both in terms of digging in on his position and in terms of really swinging at those who question him.
He'd be great on a forum like this one. As a columnist, it's a weakness.

Bedard wrote: This is a reclamation project like no other for the Patriots. The other players who were brought in here with less-than-stellar reputations didn’t have a consistent recent history of violence. Ted Washington, Corey Dillon, Randy Moss, Albert Haynesworth, and Chad Johnson were more malcontents than anything..
Hayneworth didn't have a recent history of violence? Really?
-Haynesworth after missing with his first foot stomp, lands with a second on the helmetless face of the defenseless Gurode narrowly missing an eye. Gurode needed 30 stitches and complains of blurred vision and chronic headaches to this day. When a penalty flag was thrown for this stomp, Haynesworth took off his helmet and threw it into the turf.
-Haynesworth was charged with assault during a road-rage incident.
-Haynesworth was charged with misdemeanor sexual assault after groping a waitress and sliding his credit card through her cleavage.
The Patriots bringing in and letting Haynesworth go, if anything, should make you respect the Patriots more.
It's the behavior WHILE a Patriot that we should be concerned with. The first altercation Haynesworth had with a coach, he was let go.As for Talib, I'm sorry, Bedard, but everything I've read about him seems to show that he is a good kid albeit with some anger issues.
The adderall suspension (though I believe he now has a prescription for it) is a non-issue IMO.
The only huge red flag for me at first was charges against Talib for firing a pistol at his sisters boyfriend.
Do a little research like a good reporter should and you find out that the man that Talib shot at was the live-in boyfriend of his sister. It was not his gun that was fired, but the gun he took from his mother at the scene.
The boyfriend, a registered, repeat sex offender was charged with sexual contact with a child, and in jail with over a quarter of a million dollar bond at the time that Talibs charges were dropped by the DA.
Frankly Bedard, I'm liking this guy a hell of a lot more than I do you.
EDIT: And while she might not approve of his methods, I'm guessing Myra would applaud Talib for protecting children from the man that molested them.
I agree. Most of the "malcontents" that BB has signed haven't caused any problems. Moss and Haynesworth were gone the minute they started to become problems.
Re: Bedard:Aqib Talib trade signals change in Patriots philosophy
I think I will judge Talib the same way I judge all other Patriots players. That is: How they act when they come here. Loved Dillon as a bruising RB but didn't like his past. However he seemed fine to me once he got here. Moss seemed more of a diva than a bad guy. Hayesworth I viewed harsher than Dillon and was glad to see him leave. Everyone carries their history with them. I will watch Talib play and see how he acts while he's a member of the team.
It's pretty simple to me. We need CB help, he's a pretty good CB. Play well, practice well, don't be a distraction or a detriment and we can talk about next season when this one is done.
It's entirely up to Talib what he wants to be starting from his first practice with the Pats till we finish this season. I wish him and the team well.
I don't care what any sports writer says or thinks...........
