Some validation for those of us who maintained Benny was just slightly above a JAG. A loveable, dependable JAG, nonetheless.

I hate to say it, but had Ridley asserted himself last season and avoided the fumbles, I bet he would've been the difference maker in the playoffs/Super Bowl. He's approximately a million times better at making people miss and getting yards after contact than BJGE.

Personally, I think it was late enough day 1 to say that they were smart to stay away from the 4 years, $20 million ($8 million guaranteed) the Bills gave Mark Anderson.

Anderson has shown repeatedly throughout his career that he's a very effective situational rusher, and much less effective as an every-down DE. The Patriots found MUCH better uses for that money, IMO.

The Pats are still on the hook for $2 mill of the Tully Banta-Cain resigning.....and using this failed experiment as a lesson, I suspect the Pats didn't want to travel down a similar road with Anderson.....12 tackles, 1 sack thru five games (starting 4) this year vs Cunningham who has given the team 5 tackles 1 sack at about 20% the cost.

The added bonus is that the three of them might bring some extra (comp) draft picks next year. I'nm guessing the Lloyd signing will cancel at least one of them out, but maybe 2 extra picks!

If Carter hadn't gotten hurt, he would be on this team (I think )
captain stone likes this.

I know its early but its looking like BB made great decisions to move on when he did.
you had to know that with lawfirm, more and more tv color people were bringing up his lack of fumbles. Invariably, once an announcer says something, the opposite usually happens......

A sarcastic Bill Belichick on Tom Brady's finger injury, "It's not life threatening."

Green-Ellis was a no brainer considering we just got Ridley and Vereen as high picks the year before.

Ridley showed enough last year to make most people think he could carry the load.

Plus we still have Woodhead too.

Andre Carter was due to injuries. If he were healthy still, we would have been crazy to let him walk.

And I'd still rather have had Carter & Jabaar Gaffney than Justin Francis (who would've made a great PS
addition had he cleared waivers) & Michael HooHooHaHa.

You don't get comp picks for players such as Carter that nobody else signs during the offseason (and not even all of them, either). BJGE, yes, and Anderson, yes—assuming the Pats didn't offset them with other signings (the good news is that many of the Pats' offseason signings, such as Gaffney, don't count against them, since they didn't make the 53).
