Patriots' director of pro personnel Jason Licht is leaving the organization to take a role with the Arizona Cardinals, league sources said Tuesday afternoon.
It is unknown what Licht's official job title will be with Arizona, but SiriusXM NFL contributor Adam Caplan reported that T.J. McCreight, who has served as the Cards' director of pro personnel, is expected to join the Colts.
Logically, Licht could be moving to fill that role, and that would essentially be a lateral move for him, which would be interesting and beg the question why he would leave a perennial winner to take the same job with a team in rebuilding mode.
That is an interesting question; why leave?
Better weather? - That's possible.
More money? - Very doubtful; the Bidwell's are known for their frugality.
More autonomy? - That would be my guess. It has come out in the latest Michael Holley book about how player evaluations were dismissed, and Belichick overrode those recommendations. It could also be a case of the opportunity to improve a team being more rewarding than keeping the status quo. There's also the consideration that no matter how well you do your job in Foxboro, a certain someone else will always get the bulk of the credit for those personnel decisions.
