Time to quote the Uncle Heatster Book on Life, rule #11: Forgive and Remember
Yes, John, you're forgiven. You *****ed up, but at the end of the day, it's still just football. Nobody died as a result of your dumbassery. But you must be high as Skylab to think the fans of this organization, let alone players and management, are going to forget what you did and trust you again. You'll be lucky if they even read your by-lines, and if they do, they'll be wondering what agenda you have.
It's just not going to work out here. Maybe you're old buddy Breer can get you a job in Dallas.

He and Herald Management had more than TWO DAYS to write the explanation piece and they needed to be further shamed into writing an apology addendum by the resultant firestorm of the public?
Shouldn't that have been the FIRST thing written in his "explanation" piece?????
My God, it's true - - - the Herald IS where all the high school dropouts get jobs from their politically connected Uncles.
haha...so true. That was the first thing I took from the original article: where the hell IS THE APOLOGY? It really didn't matter to me whether he apologized or not, the damage has been done and nothing short of his termination will help to set things straight. However, the fact that in his apology he never actually, you know, APOLOGIZED, made me almost laugh at the hilarity that is the Boston Herald and the soon-to-be-unemployed (and unemployable in Boston) John Tomase.
AUGH!!! This, only after many dozens of respondents this morning pointed out that his missive contained no apology. Further proof that this guy's mindset is not to be trusted.
Believe it or not, many people view life as if it's all about them. Like its about their wishes, dreams, hopes and pain. It's called being self-centered to the extreme.
Apologizing is all about WHO you are apologizing to. I guess Tomasse thought is was all about how good his written explanation "sounded".
Hey John, everyone has wishes, dreams, hopes and pain. But you fail to see how much pain YOU have caused others so our HOPE is that you either quit or resign.

It took one article for Tomase to build up as much resentment and anger in the fanbase as it took Dan Shaughnessy years to do. I know plenty of people (including myself) who simply don't ready Shaughnessy's work, and I'm sure you're right that many people will feel the same way about Tomase.
Personally, I would never touch a copy of the Herald BEFORE all of this, so I'm certainly not going to now.

Nor I. I haven't even bothered to read his explanation/apology. I just don't care.

I would actually stand up and applaud Tomase, and shake his hand, if he voluntarily resigned and moved on to re-start his career. To me, that would show sincerely transformative professional character-building in process. All he did today was offer further evidence that he can't be trusted.
I accept his apology. However, that doesn't mean he and his editors still don't need to feel the reprucusions of their gross negligence. Fines, suspensions, terminations, something. There needs to be some punishment dolled out by the Herald to prove they are serious about the integrity of their newspaper.
