Lightbulb Jerod Mayo Q&A, 5/1

Here’s the transcript of the recently completed Q&A with Patriots’ first-round pick Jerod Mayo at Gillette Stadium:On the most surprising thing about the process…Just being able to come into a winning situation. I never thought I’d be on a team that lost only one game last year. I’m excited to learn from some of the [...]

So, is Mayo excited and overwhelmed?

The more and more articles/interviews w this kid I read in the past week, the more I'm happy we spent #10 on him. To me, in hindsight it seems like a no-brainer we'd have his kid higher on the board than Gholston or Rivers. He's smart, he's humble, he's got the work ethic, and we know he has the physical ability and speed. Seems like a perfect fit.

That Globe article is AMAZING. Nice piece by Chris Gasper.

It's almost like Jerod Mayo was custom made to be a Patriot. Grandfather and military parents, choir boy, loyal to his HS and coaches, graduated EARLY with a degree in college, along with the monster talent and statistics.

I love how during the NFL draft he was out raking leaves with his mom.

I root for all Patriots, of course, but I REALLY like this guy. I liked Meriweather and I still do but at his press conference he seemed young. Mayo doesn't, even though he came out a year early (already having his degree) he seems super mature and a man not a boy just getting out of college. Jerod will be a favorite of mine and many others very soon, I think.

What about those knee injuries though? Thats something that worried me a little when the Pats drafted him. I would hate to for him to become our best LB but always be sidelined because of injury. What do you guys think?

B, that is exactly how I feel. I got the same impression when I heard is interview on WEEI.
