Mayock says Bill still likes Cassel. Odd how the backups are all named Matt...LOL
There was no rationale for trading (or even showcasing) Cassel until now. He had more value on the roster, something his critics never grasped. Cassel will have a job somewhere next season one way or another and whether we get compensation for that (pre-season trade) or not (FA in 2008) is the only question. What is a better pick then in at the end of the third - a rising QB or some guy who projects to our PS, period. He's like a commodities future. And don't be surprised if a guy like Dimitroff doesn't want a guy like Cassel on his roster to help build the patriot like culture in Atlanta and pave the way for a guy like Ryan and provide an early buffer so they don't have to throw him to the wolves when they need to pull the plug on Joey again in week 3. I guarantee you Mangenius would trade for him if he could. There are a dearth of remotely competent QB's in this league today.
It's hilarious how people here have been trying to get rid of Cassel for going on 4 years now...yet he's survived Vinny, Flutie, Gutierrez, Redman, and a host of others.
