In a heartbeat although it would never happen. I mean good lord. Chad Johnson is a much better receiver than Wes Welker. It's far easier to find slot receivers than game breaking studs like Johnson. It just amazes me how many fans fall in love with guys and don't think rationally. Chad Johnson for Wes Welker is a no brainer.

Piece of cake to find guys who tie Jerry Rice's Superbowl receptions record even in a loss where the HOF QB making those throws spent half his evening on his ass...

No need to mess up on field chemistry or the cap or off field chemistry - each one of which 85, Ocho Cinco, or whatever he is calling himself these days would impact negatively.

Right, even easier to find a RECIEVER who willing to throw his body into harms way for a play. I'm sure Chad would be happy to block like Wes. Who needs Wes anyways? I mean he only tied for most catches in the league last year, I'm sure that we can find PLENTY of guys that can duplicate his production.

Perhpas Ocho Stinko can bring his cool HOF Jacket with him - Randy and Tom would think that was really really cool.

Yes, it's Boston sports fandom, and wacked-out trade scenarios are what we do best. Sorry to dig up a B-ball trade scenario from the past, but recall the "Carl Everett and Mike Lansing for Vladi Guerro and Jose Vidro" scenario when both Everette and Lansing had obscene salaries and Guerro and Vidro were bargains.

And yes, I'd do the Welker for Chad trade in a hearbeat, but only if CJ agrees to play for the vet min.

No brainer huh, I didn't peg you as a guy that had any of those !

Wes stays, Chad is great, but we have Randy and filling Wes's shoes in the slot is not as easy as your no brain thinks it is !

If anyone was on the fence, this post should confirm that it would be silly to make that trade.

Moss, Owens, Wayne, S. Smith, C. Johnson, Fitzgerald, Boldin, A. Johnson, Colston, B. Edwards...

Now name me the slot guys who can do what Welker does.

Would I make the trade if we didn't already have Moss? Probably. But now that we already have a deep threat game-changer, it's stupid to consider it. Welker keeps games under control better than anyone else in the league.

If we had the lineup pre-Moss trade in 2007, then yes.
With Moss & w/o Stallworth, not a good move in terms of chemistry and complimentary styles.

You guys are incredible. Do you honestly think there is ONE GENERAL MANAGER in this league who considers Wes Welker to be a better overall receiver than Chad Johnson? I mean for cris sakes Tom Brady made David Givens and Deion Branch look like superstars in super bowls. Wes Welker had the advantage of playing with Tom Brady and having the defense double cover Moss on every down. Can we get serious people? Good lord. The homerism on this site is out of control. I love Wes but let's not compare him to one of the top 5 receivers in the entire NFL.
