You noticed that too? Last year in week 17 he had a similar catch on slant and he looked like if he had another step he would've taken it to the house.

And now last night he shows the same play and takes it 30 yards. Dude is ******* fast i tell ya. Never saw speed or explosiveness like that from Tate.

It looks as though Price runs better routes. He was very self critical of his route running errors and details in how he did his job last night. That is the type of person who does well on this team. It really depends on who is developing Chemistry with TFB.

I think there are a lot of people who aren't willing to give up on him so quick, like so many are willing to do. Taylor Price having a great game in the first pre-season game of the year, doesn't change that. I Remember Edelman looking unstoppable last year in a similar meaningless preseason game. Come regular season it didn't translate to much of anything. So one WR's limited sucess doesn't spell doom for another WR who is traveling down his own path.

So basically NFL players (or at least New England Patriot players) should have one chance on the playing field, and if they don't immediately excel they should be cut and the team should move on to another player?

(And before Deus responds, yes, I do realize that 2010 was technically Tate's second season - even though most consider it to be the equivalent of his rookie season for all intents and purposes.)

I agree, with his route running, he almost reminds me of Terry Glenn in that regard.

I've liked Price better than Tate since the Pats drafted him. I don't think he is that viable in the return game though. At the moment, he seems like a liability because him catching the ball from a Punt/Kick-off seems too inconsistent. If that is because he doesn't have the confidence in that area of his game right not I can't say, but I don't feel save with him at the returner. And from what i have seen so far he seems more like a straight line runner than the shifty/speed combo guy you need to have in the return game.

That is where I think Tate is the better of the two. He is shiftier than Price, but not shifty or sudden enough to play in the slot. So he can't compete in the slot receiver position and has limited upside on the outside, where he can easily be outperformed by players like Price. The only real thing he has got going for him is the kick-return game where he honestly isn't that good, but is fortunate enough that the others are worse.

I don't think this is really answerable after the first preseason game of the season, especially when only one of the two played.

Well, he did get a whole season, and the poll question is who would you rather have, Tate or Price? I don't see the point of keeping both because the inferior WR won't develop much as the #6 WR.

I like Tate, I was pretty high on him when we got him. Had he not been injured in his senior year he would of probably been a late 1st early 2nd rd pick. Comes to our team and sits out a year to recover and gets his playbook. Comes into camp looking pretty good, decent grasp of the play book, good return guy. Contributed a handful of plays in the receiving game with a couple of big drops that were sure TD's. Not a bad second-rookie season. He's now technically in 3rd year so decisions most be made. He's got a knee reconstruction on his resume and a contract coming up in a couple of years.

In comes Taylor Price. Physically gifted 3rd rounder via Carolina. Noone expecting much,probably a player 2 or 3 years away. See's a few snaps in his rookie season, for the most part looks lost as most rookie wr's do. Comes in his second year admits he now has a better understanding of the playbook and displays some serious flash in training camp and then puts it out there on the field last night.

If I had to pick between the two right now it is definately going to be Price. Mind you, we haven't got to see if Tate has improved his route running and hands. I just think Price's skill set seem more natural than Tate's from the small sample we've got so far. It also seems like the QB's feel comfortable getting him the ball. Hoyer and Mallett felt comfortable enough to try to split the seams on a few occasions to Price which again shows the confidence needed to make a name for yourself in this league.

Ultimately we would miss Tate's KO ability, but it is far easier to find a return man than it is to find a WR with the upside of Taylor Price.
