The Boston Globe suggests that Patriots S James Sanders "could garner some interest on the trade market" after the lockout.
The Pats could go forward with Brandon Meriweather, Pat Chung, Jarrad Page, and a special teamer as their safeties. Sanders, 27, is due a $2.8 million base salary. A nine-game starter last season, Sanders intercepted three passes including a pick-six and also had a forced fumble. However, Pro Football Focus graded Sanders as a poor run defender and below-average cover man. It's hard to imagine the Pats getting more than a late-round pick for him.
I like this proposed move.
we look SOLID at DB and a move like this could net us that extra ST guy on the roster. Maybe a Lee Smith type I keed I keed, but hopehe could crack it

We all thought the same thing last year too. Perhaps if the right deal came along, but idk... I'll bet against it.
Let's not forget that last year we went into TC with 4 quality safeties with Chung, Meriweather, Sanders, and McGowan. We all speculated that Sanders could be traded because we already had 3 other quality safeties besides him. But then McGowan got hurt. One would have thought that we would have been content with what we had with the remaining three; but BB saw the need to have 4 quality players and traded for Jarrad Page.
As for interest on the market, I don't know if much is there. Sanders was a free agent at one point, and teams were hardly clamoring for his services. I think we value him more here than others teams would on their teams.

I would much rather see Merriweather go. He would garner a much higher return, being that he is younger, has better stats, and made 2 Pro-Bowls. I could see him going for a second round, maybe even a first to a really dumb GM (ie: Al Davis). Or maybe in one of those rare player for player deals.
So, we currently have three solid safeties in Meriweather, Chung, and Sanders. Then we have three question marks in Page (limited sample size), McGowan (health and maybe not signed? can't remember), and Brown (ST youth). As a team that employs as many three-safety sets as we do, I don't think it's wise to trade one of the three safeties we have confidence in. Even though many of the 3-S sets were due to lack of depth at CB, I still think that is a short sighted move.
Sanders was in on something like 70% of the snaps last year. If we trade him, one injury to Chung or Meriweather and suddenly we're starting Jarrad Page full time. I'm not comfortable with that right now.
Sanders has more value to us than any other team - he's a steadying force in our safety rotation. But he's borderline worth his contract as it is - if anything, he could be restructured, even cut if we had to (looks like we don't). But traded? Don't see it.

if you ppl are so confident in a SB run. Merry out does not help.
