I can help but think if Brady selected Edelman to get together with him and Martinez that there's more credibility to the rumors that Welker will be traded.

Welker and Edelman have same assignments usually, but why get rid of the best slot receiver in the NFL? Having Edelman as a backup to give Wes a breather and having him return kicks to save Welker from injury seems like a good investment....

I think it comes down to the benefit you get keeping the status quo v. having Edelman take over and getting someone else to fill Edelman's current spot.
Edelman will costs less, and is younger and faster. Also, how do we know that Edelman won't take off if given more playing time? Furthermore, how much more does Welker have left in the tank?
I don't know the answers to those questions but I imagine that those are questions BB will be considering when making his personnel decisions when free agency starts.

That would be a literal non sequitur ("it does not follow"). He "chose" Edelperson because Edelperson was actually in Cali at the time.

I believe it also has a lot to do with durability.....other than the bad injury Welker had, which he recovered in record time from, Wes has been fairly durable....I believe Edelman has been dinged up a few times already in his short career....
